[qubes-users] No network access on fresh install on Macbook AIr

2019-06-16 Thread qubesnubes
Situation:

* Did a fresh install which went flawless, no errors of any kind were thrown.
During the entire installation I had a thunderbolt<->Ethernet adapter plugged
in.

* Once logged in to Qubes I can see the network applet in the top panel, it is
coloured red. If I click it I see 3 lines:
(1) Ethernet Network
(2 - greyed out) device not managed
(3) VPN Connections >.

When I look at the devices connected to sys-net I see 2 devices:
(1) 03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Limited BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless
Network Adapter (rev 03)
(2) 0a:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Limited NetXtreme BCM57762
Gigabit Ethernet PCIe(rev ff)

When I run 'service NetworkManager status' in a sys-net terminal it shows the
service is active & running.

When I run 'ping 8.8.8.8' in a sys-net terminal I get: "connect: Network is
unreachable".

When I run 'lspci -v' I can see the aformentioned BCM57762 Ethernet Controller
but it is followed by a line that says "!!! Unknown header type 7f". Related
kernel module is tg3

I can also see my BCM4360 wifi Network Controller, that does not even show up
in the NetworkMager applet in the top panel. The kernel module it is running on
is bcma.

I understand the above info is very random, but I simply have no idea where I
should start to trouble-shoot the issue.

Any help would be welcome!

BCM4360 support in Fedora 30 appears to be buggy:
https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/cant-connect-to-wifi-after-update-bcm4360-with-broadcom-wl-driver/482?page=2.
First thing is to try shutting down all your VMs, then changing sys-net
to use the Debian template.

In general, I think Thunderbolt devices need to be connected before
power on for Qubes to see them. Sounds like you did, but changing the
template might address this too.

Please try this procedure to reset the Firewall rules GUI in Qubes OS 4.0:

Re: [qubes-users] qubes-dom0-update keep showing the same already downloaded packages.

2019-06-16 Thread 'trichel' via qubes-users
I got the exact same problem (same packages) and reinstalled the packages with
DNF. The kernel packages are still not installing, should they also be
installed with dnf?

sudo-dom0-update --clean --verbose prints these warnings:

Unknown configuration value: failovermethod=priority in
/var/lib/qubes/dom0-updates/etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo; Configuration:
OptionBinding with id "failovermethod" does not exist

repeated many times.

Then an error message: Downloading Successful, but checksum doesn't match

This all started after upgrading the template for the updateVM (sys-firewall)
from Fedora 28 to Fedora 29 and shortly thereafter to 30.

sorry if not posting correctly, i just joined the list

I wanted to do the same to move the template sys-usb was based on, but you need
to stop sys-usb to do it which in the case of a Deskop computer make you
without keyboard and mousse ...

Unman is correct. You tried to unsubscribe from qubes-announce, not
qubes-users. The attempt to unsubscribe from qubes-announce failed
because you were not subscribed to that list.

You could temporarily remove rd.qubes.hide_all_usb from your xen.cfg.
This exposes dom0 to your USB controllers, so unplug everything except
keyboard & mouse. Reboot, and verify you have keyboard after shutting
down sys-usb. Make the changes you need and verify sys-usb starts
normally. Add rd.qubes.hide_all_usb back to xen.cfg.

I believe the above is relatively low risk, anyone have a better
approach? You could also script the template change, but I wouldn't be
confident enough to attempt it...

Do you have already newer kernel version installed? If so, dnf is picky
and refuse to operate on older packages in most cases... But also
shouldn't download old package when newer is already there, unless
you've explicitly requested it to do so.

But you don't have newer kernel (like 4.19.x), running `dnf update` or
`qubes-dom0-update` after doing reinstall for other packages should
help.

How about?

#!/bin/bash
qvm-shutdown sys-usb
qvm-prefs sys-usb template debian-9
qvm-start sys-usb
sleep 3m
qvm-shutdown sys-usb
qvm-prefs sys-usb template fedora-30
qvm-start sys-usb

Just long enough to check all works fine and then switches back.
If all's fine, delete the last 4 lines.

If worried about races, pepper in a few more sleeps.

Nice one. Where should I normally put the #!/bin/bash scripts in dom0?
Is it ok to use /usr/bin or is it better to leave it for
