[qubes-users] USB Controller passthru to HVM on Qubes 3.1

2019-07-30 Thread Pete Howell
I'm trying to passthrough a StarTech 2-Port USB 3.1 Card (#PEXUSB312A2) to
an HVM running Windows 7, and the device does not show up. The device
shows up in an lspci as:

01:00.0 USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. Device 2142

$ xl pci-assignable-list
:01:00.0
:03:00.0
$ xl pci-assignable-add 01:00.0
libxl: warning: libxl_pci.c:636:libxl__device_pci_assignable_add:
:01:00.0 already assigned to pciback

I have tried attaching it from the VM manager and from the command line:

$ qvm-pci -a win7 01:00.0
$ qvm-start win7
(no errors)
$ qvm-pci -l win7
['01:00.0']

What I don't understand is why the device doesn't show up in the device
manager on Windows. The driver software for Windows also doesn't see the
device.

Is there something that I'm missing to get the passthrough to work on a
Windows HVM??

Wrong group.

Apart from that, the request displays a lack of even the most basic
knowledge as well as an unwillingness to spend the necessary time for
learning. This - in combination with the complex nature of the matter -
is exactly what gets people into trouble. If you want to play safe,
there is no shortcut. Without extensive reading and as long as dealing
with the dudes in the appropriate groups is like "waisting time" for
you, you're gonna mess up your safety, for sure.

[qubes-users] Re: Does anyone managed to have wireguard working on Fedora 29?

2019-07-30 Thread Jon deps

Hello,

I'm able to get wireguard working over debian when using a HVM AppVM.
However I'd like to do use wireguard on the fedora template in a PVH
template.
This issue (https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/3591) that
was closed marmarek states that the kernel-latest-(qubes-vm) contains
wireguard module out of the box, however I don't find it anywhere.

Dies anyone managed to have wireguard working on a PVH fedora template?

I'm using kernel 4.19.43-1 so where can I find the wg module?

The search for tasket vpn qubes github results is wg being used with debian as
a PVH AppVM, I guess you overlooked the initial part on the thread where I said
that I want this to work in fedora and not in debian on PVH.

yes, sorry my about that post, anyway

 the 4.19 Fedora kernel doesn't include the wg module, like the deb-9
one seems to ?

if not then this sort of thing doesn't work ?
https://www.wireguard.com/install/

not sure why you having to use 'testing' in dom0 I am not, though, yes,
I used deb-9 for the template for the sys-vpn-wg

are you using Arch templates ?

just curious any particular reason for the PVH and Fedora ?

[qubes-users] Re: Qubes i3 Tips & Tricks

2019-07-30 Thread Daniel Moerner
A quick follow-up on this:

First, I have a branch with i3 updated to 4.16.1 for testing:
https://github.com/dmoerner/qubes-desktop-linux-i3/tree/4.16.1-colors. I
believe it is now stable. (cf.
https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-issues/issues/5168)

Second, a nice, lightweight redshift program for dom0 is sct:
https://www.umaxx.net/dl/sct-0.4.tar.gz. This is written by a few OpenBSD
developers and is so simple you can audit the C code yourself before
installing it in dom0. It isn't in Fedora yet, although I will get around
to pushing it eventually
(https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/dmoerner/sct/).

Third, a question: Some of the icons in the domains.py and devices.py tray
icons don't appear by default. They do appear if you run "xfce4-settingsd".
It has something to do with populating the default icons. I haven't been
able to figure out how to get it to show icons without running
xfce4-settingsd. I tried some basic settings in ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and
~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini, without any luck. If anyone knows how to do
this, that would be nice to hear. I prefer not to use "xfce4-settingsd"
since it seems to mess up some of the i3 hotkeys.

By the way, if anyone is using awesome: You might want to install
i3-settings-qubes. qubes-i3-xdg-autostart is a simpler alternative to
dex-autostart, and qubes-i3-sensible-terminal works great with awesome.

Best,
Daniel
