Firefox crashes a lot for me too, with 7GB ram assigned, mostly on reddit,
youtube pages. Makes it nearly unusable.

[qubes-users] TPM settings for Qubes OS

2020-04-25 Thread Harold Smith
Hello, I'm getting ready to Intall Qubes onto a machine, I can't find any
information about TPM settings, apart from that TPM is required.
wanting to install onto Dell laptop, in BIOS I have enabled/activated TPM
security, when I did, other options came up, they are as follows.

TPM ACPI support
TPM PPI deprovison overide
TPM PPI provision overide.

Just wanting to know about these settings in relation to Qubes.
There is also the matter of virtualization support, I enabled VT Direct I/O
and "intel virtualization technology", which I believe are VT-x and VT-d
according to what I've read, in the virtualization menu there is also an
option for "Trusted Execution", any information about what is necessary to
install and run qubes properly regarding these options would be
apprreciated.

Thanks for anything.

[qubes-users] Blanking memory for security?

2020-04-25 Thread Catacombs
That is for a QUBE to write over the memory it occupies, before it takes
over the memory, or as it leaves the memory.

Or should I say writing over the memory, likely some RAM, some virtual on
the drive with a pattern.

Does QUBEs do that? Should I be concerned if it does or does not?

your message looks incomplete/corrupted.

but the most likely answer to your unasked question can be found here:
https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/usb-qubes/

and the tl;dr is:
sudo qubesctl state.sls qvm.sys-usb
sudo qubesctl state.sls qvm.usb-keyboard

with this less-official-but-strongly-recommended-by-me addon:
qvm-prefs sys-usb autostart False

There is a known problem with Linux usbip not handling reset properly I
believe.  I don't think it's a Qubes problem.

I use a usb connected camera, and that thread helped me get it working
with some programs.  But I still have to disconnect and reconnect the
camera to make a second video connection.  Sometimes it takes a
number of disconnects, pauses and reconnects before it works.  Along
with the occasional "attach timeout" problems from qubes.  And some
programs just don't work no matter what I try.

Got it working by putting the video-conference VM to HVM. Maybe that
helps in your case as well? Cheers,

Did you try to enlarge the maximum memory in your disposable VM template
to 2 GB or so?

In dom0 it's
qubes-vm-settings [your dvm template]

Or do it via qubes manager.
