Hi Sander,
This absolutely CAN be done.
If you create a standalone qube based on an existing standard template then the
qubes tools will already be installed, and qvm-move and qvm-copy will
work as expected.
I wonder if you are actually talking about a standalone HVM? That is, a
qube where you have installed an OS. In this case, you will need to
install some version of the qubes tools from qubes-core-agent. This
package is available for Debian, Ubuntu, arch and windows - anything
else you are on your own, and will have to build a package yourself.
