Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Alarm handling

2010-02-05 Thread eap

 Hi,
it would be cool if I could configure the order of the functions to
turn/snooze an alarm. If an alarm goes off, I have no problems getting
up. I *never* use snooze. But I find it hard fiddling around the knob to
go to the next menu item to stop the alarm.
I know that I can press the power-off button instead. But I would
prefer hitting the larg knob, it's more handy than searching for the
 power button.

So configuring the order of the menu entries, or alternativly turning
the Snooze function off would be cool.

 C.

True the whole snooze issue has added a layer of complexity to the
whole alarm firing deal. I never use snooze ever (in my entire life).
If snooze could be turned off for those who don't want it, then maybe
there would be one menu item on the pop-up screen -- so just press the
big knob and it turns off alarm. Because the radio lacks a dedicated
snooze button they had to make a one button approach -- so I don't think
changing the menu order is the answer. Getting rid of snooze entirely
(sort of hiding it) for those who don't use it/need it would be great.

Does another 10 minutes of sleep really make a difference? Get your
lazy butt up. Or, just set the alarm to go off 10 minutes later. I
never understood snooze. Logically, you should set the alarm for the
LATEST possible time you can get up -- so if you snooze you'll be late
(so why even bother with it)?

well, I put it on yesterday evening and it spontaneously rebooted twice

Another thing quite annoying: since when you install a new firmware you
have to reinstall applets you had, when you put on the new firmware,

If you press power off button it just stays still on the main menĂ¹.

I reckon the reason you can't go into standby is because you are using a
screensaver for off based on an applet that isn't loaded (eg
CustomClock). I believe standby isn't any lower power is just changes
the display. IIRC 7.5 introduces auto reloading of applets.

the Radio sync more frequently -- I'm trying it out now, but too soon
 for me to tell.

I just noticed this on my Radio running off SBS 7.4.2. How bad can
this problem be with current hardware? Drifts of minutes per *day*?
The crystal/whatever does the local timekeeping should be able to keep
time within minutes per week *easily*; if there's a once/day sync with
SBS this drift should be less than 10s for sure.

Fantastic ideas, so much more helpful than the popup menu. I would have
thought that the ability to see the time was a no brainer - for most
people at least.

However, unless you're hoping for Logitech to implement this as the
default alarm display, I assume it will need someone like Erland to
build a custom app. And I believe that can only happen when the API can
support 3rd party alarm apps. It was discussed in other threads, but I

I think Rikk's design is meant to be a Now Playing screen. It's an
elegant solution which eliminates needing to make a choice between
seeing the large time and seeing the album art.

Couldn't agree with you more about eliminating the popup menu during
the alarm. The alarm function could be described in the manual, just
like the volume/mute button is. Once you know how to snooze or turn off
the alarm you don't really need a daily popup to remind you what to do.

Don't worry, this will be possible thanks to Logitech recent licensing
change. I have a solution for it even if Logitech don't prioritize
making an official API. It just relies on a 7.5 Squeezebox Server, so
Logitech have to finish up the Squeezebox Touch release first.
