Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Problems since upgrading from 7.4.x to 7.5.x

2010-07-16 Thread lightman

Actually I think I've finally stumbled upon the answer. I'm using an
old wifi router as a wifi access point (disabled DHCP, etc and just
hook up a cable to the regular switch ports from my linux server which
acts as the NAT/Firewall/etc). While looking at the output of 'netstat
-an' on the squeezeboxserver machine, I saw most of the connections to
port 9000 were coming from the IP of the wifi router instead of the SB
Radio itself. I looked around in the config of the wifi router and
found a setting for it's operation mode, which I switched from Router
to Bridge and things have started working.

I haven't touched the settings on that router since I've owned the
squeezebox radio, but it would appear that something in the 7.5 series
didn't like this additional routing layer. Oddly not had any problems
with other devices on this wifi access point.

Happy to have a working squeezebox again.

As bluegaspode already stated a local server really helps in getting an
reliable alarm. Mine is 99.9% reliable. :)

I have re-tested the backup alarm and it does indeed fade in using the
7.6.0-r8934 Radio firmware. :o

[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio keeps freezing since 7.5.1

2010-07-16 Thread tcrown

Hi all,

Ever since the recent firmware update, my radio keeps freezing and
trying to re-buffer while playing BBC stations through Opentime.
Sometimes it re-buffers successfully, sometimes it does not and the
wireless signal is very weak or is lost. I haven't moved the router or
radio and it worked flawlessly before. Anyone have any suggestions for
a fix?

Thanks,
Ian

Just out of curiosity, if not for its compactness and practicality as a
BEDSIDE clock/radio, why would anyone choose the SB radio instead of the
Boom? Certainly not for the sound.

Although the alarm is indeed a minor feature within the SB line as a
whole, I would argue it's the PRIMARY distinguishing feature of the
radio. This is not a trivial issue.

Perhaps for its compactness practicality as a KITCHEN clock/radio, or a
BATHROOM clock/radio, or perhaps a PORCH, OFFICE, ENTRYWAY or GARAGE
clock/radio?

frb63;562158 Wrote:

I disagree. Some other distinguishing features: Compactness, color
screen, battery, price. Any of these can be argued to be the primary
distinguishing feature. It's a subjective question.

The Boom has an alarm too. It's even got a alarm clock style snooze
button on top, which the Radio lacks.

At least on this point we agree.

One reason is the portability (if you are ever able to purchase a

Well, the alarm functionality IS broken. It has been for the last 8
months and I'm beginning to think that it will never be fixed. Besides,
there are loads of other inexcusable design and implementation flaws.
With so little progress and even regression in all this time, I guess
it's time to abandon all hope and get a working device. The only
question is if there's one which is MUCH better. Maybe the Dash could
be an alternative - but it's not released yet in Europe.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Using radio headphone socket and speaker

2010-07-16 Thread cjbentley

Hello,

This has been asked elsewhere i think but not sure if in here.

Is there a simple way to use the SB radio's speaker and the headphones
socket (line out) *at the same time*? I want to rig up an extra simple
speaker some distance away.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Problems since upgrading from 7.4.x to 7.5.x

2010-07-16 Thread snarlydwarf

It could be just plain and simple router overload.

My cheapo Belkin got converted to an AP-only (ie, i don't use the 'wan'
port and turned off DHCP) because under load it would do strange things.
Too much streaming, too many hits to a port-forwarded web server and it
would fill up its nat tables or some other memory and start dropping
packets.

Sadly another few megs of ram would fix it but.. they solder them in
now.
