Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio or Squeezebox Boom

2010-08-01 Thread Aslak3

I've had both for about six months and love them both equally.

Radio:

* Nice screen for album artwork, picture screen saver, clock, menu
navigation etc.
* One speaker (but sound quality still surprisingly good).
* Apparently dodgy alarm clock (though no problems for me with local
SBS).
* Battery power and remote option

Boom:

* Sounds excellent.
* Backlit buttons.
* Last in the line of Slim players. No new features expected in the
firmware, but will of course benefit from SBS improvements.
* Comes with a remote.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio or Squeezebox Boom

2010-08-01 Thread willorama

Based on my experience, do NOT buy the radio. I may have bought a lemon,
but this thing is driving my wife up the wall.

* The radio is extremely unstable.

* It will stop playing for unknown reasons-to restore playing press
another stations button then back.

* Display will go black-previously could restore by pulling power plug-
now that I have a battery I'm not sure how to fix it.

* Remote does not support radio buttons. Supposedly one can duplicate
this using favorites. Two problems with that: One, I haven't figured
out how to do that. Two, the radio is on the other side of the bed from
my wife and the display is too small to see where you are in the menu
structure.

If you like to have a full time hobby trying to make sense out of
undesired random events, this is the device for you. If you want a
reliable tool for listening, go elsewhere. If I could return the radio
I would.

The radio has six buttons (like on a car radio) that you can preset to
stations or (supposedly) stuff in your library.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio or Squeezebox Boom

2010-08-01 Thread erland

Boom:
+ sounds better
+ stable firmware
- Will probably get less new features than Radio

Radio
+ smaller size
+ support for optional battery pack
+ color screen
- more firmware bugs at the moment = more problems

I would personally not change back my Radio to a Boom, I love the size
of the Radio and the color screen really makes a difference. However, I
have the Radio as a bedside radio where the stereo sound from the Boom
really isn't needed.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Revert to older firmware

2010-08-01 Thread Honva

When I reinstall an older version of squeezeboxserver, I can revert the
Squeezebox 3's firmware to the older version. However, the Squeezebox
Radio does not provide such option to update to the older version
firmware. Is there a way to downgrade back to the older firmware?

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Revert to older firmware

2010-08-01 Thread erland

Are we talking about an older nightly build within same SBS release ?

If you install an older official SBS release the Radio should prompt
you to downgrade the firmware automatically. For nightly builds I think
it always uses the latest firmware version compatible with that SBS
release (7.5.2 at the moment since that's what the nightly builds are
built from)

It is possible to downgrade within a nightly build manually, but to do
that you need to get tha specific firmware files you like to downgrade
to. I think there is a thread or wiki article that describes the
process somewhere.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Thanks Squeezebox Radio

2010-08-01 Thread snowmanvt

For all the griping about the Radio--I want to say that I just finished
putting up four cords of wood for winter and my Squeezebox was with me
every moment of the way. I was outside about 200 feet from the router
and using the battery pack. Never a drop-out or cut-off. From Pandora
to Radio Rancherito
in Ciudad Juarez, the Radio kept me going for two hard days.

Thanks.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Synced radios - No volume on some

2010-08-01 Thread jk12

I have a 7.5.1 network of 4 Radios and 1 Touch. I also use iPeng (iPad)
and various Android apps for(Droid) remote control. My problem is
sometimes when I press play, not all radios emit sound---I can see the
playing icon so it is streaming (I guess). There's just no sound. I
have to power on/off for the device to emit sound again.

I tried downgrading SBS to 7.5.0, and that didn't resolve. Radios are
still synced but sometimes one or more of them will not emit sound when
play is pressed.

Any ideas what might be causing this sync-without-sound issue? Could
the phone apps be causing issues? Is it an SBS version issue? Also,
when I downgraded the server to 7.5.0, the radios never updated. Each
one is still on 7.5.1 r8837. I even tried software updatestill
the same version.

I'm seeing the same on both Radio and Touch I believe it's an issue with
the current firmware of the SB players.
I also have all kind of problems with updating the firmware and
connecting to servers on the device itself (work fine if connected
through iPeng/controller)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Thanks Squeezebox Radio

2010-08-01 Thread Ron Stordahl

Yes there should be more compliments about the SBR. If it were reliable
I would be the first to say it was the best $150.00 I have ever spent.

The screen occasionally freezes up when changing stations, using the
presets, requiring a reboot. So I tried leaving it on just one station
to see what would happen. The next morning it was frozen. Only a
reboot could get it going again.

Because of these issues I have not looked into the many extensive
features. If just the most simple uses were solid I would be singing
the praises of the SBR.

I am hoping that a future firmware update will solve the problems.

I have hardware version 5 firmware 7.5.1 r8837 with mysqueezebox.com.

Make sure that you are connected to the local server, it sounds like it
still users the mysqueezebox.com web site (which is using 7.5.1).

Try this:
1. Make sure your server is running
2. Browse into My Music/Albums, make sure it connects to your server
and shows the albums on it
3. Restart the Radio by holding the power button for a few seconds and
then push it again to startup the Radio again.

Hopefully, it will connect to your server and offer you the 7.4.2
firmware after this.
