Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Can IR receiver be disabled?
Thanks for posting the hack. I re-bought Radio after sending back last fall (when it was flat out unreliable mess). It works reasonably now, but I am still shocked they haven't brought back this feature yet. Without it makes Radio unusable with any other Squeezebox in shared space. It makes sense to disable the remote on the Radio being it's more portable kind. -- unclemat unclemat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33372 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69634 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I think the quality of the connection is a red herring - or a scapegoat. In any typical 24 hours, I spend several times as many hours listening to Di.fm on my Roku SoundBridge as I do listening to the same stations over the same WiFi connection on my Squeezebox Radio. All day long, I have flawless playback on the Roku. My internet connection and DI.fm's servers are bombproof. Yet, every evening when I retreat to the bedroom, I have to fiddle with the Squeezebox Radio's eccentricities. > I can't understand why this product can be so buggy. My experience so far with my Squeezebox Radio has been a deja vu for me. It reminds me so much of another product that I beta tested for, which was started by a wealthy buisnessman who hired a very talented programmer to launch his idea. As the product unfolded into a polished prize, the two had a difference of opinion and the programmer left. The owner brought in programmer after programmer who tried to make sense of his code. For years, it took months between updates which often added more bugs than were fixed. (I finally abandoned the product as it degraded into oblivion.) Sounds a little too familiar to me. When Logitech bought out Slim Devices did they hold on to their programmers? Getting an alarm software routine right should be fairly straightforward unless you're unable to make sense of someone elses code. -- BLatSD BLatSD's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38631 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81273 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

The "Natural Sounds" are streamed from mysb.com but they are also looped so that only a small amount of data downloaded once which is then played continuously. However the delay in setting up the connection to mysb.com is probably exceeding what the Radio thinks is normal. The delay is probably worst in early hours after many hours of non activity on home network because - caches such as DNS will have timed out so lookups will take longer as many tables will have to be searched rather than one lookup. - if using wifi - router will have gone to slow poll and possibly low energy. - ISP do maintenance at night and so network caches/tables/connections may have changed and again connection taker longer - first time. - DHCP leases may be expired and have to be renewed This makes testing hard as a true test can only be run once a night as a 2nd test will be quicker since caches etc. will have been renewed. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81273 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

[SlimDevices: Radio] r9009 alarm problems continue...
Well, after quite a happy week of having the new firmware release r9009 I found my alarm working again after a several months of it not working. (Wrong sounds/alarms being played, sometimes not even going off at all, or the radio not staying on for more than a couple of minutes afterwards before it turned itself off again). So I was quite happy. Last night I had to set an earlier 'one-off' alarm for 5:30am. My normal alarm is set for 7:30, six days a week and uses the 'Natural Sounds' application for the alarm sound. The one-off alarm was also using 'Natural Sounds'. 5:30am came along, the alarm went off and played a different musical natural sound to what I had selected. I switched to playing the radio which it did and then one minute later the unit when into standby mode. I turned the radio back on, this time it stayed on for about 10/15 minutes and went into standby again. This continued for the next hour or so. The 7:30 alarm came along then too and although it played the correct sound, it too turned off within a minute or so. Again, switching to the radio afterwards exhibited the same random switching to standby mode every 10 to 15 minutes. Very frustrating. I can't understand why this product can be so buggy. Especially the alarm itself. I can understand that sometimes an internet radio stream may not be there and it has to fail over to something else but I'm using the basic alarm sounds. I have tried countless factory resets, firmware reloads and msb.com clear downs. Nothing really makes any difference. -- gcparris gcparris's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38855 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81273 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
