[SlimDevices: Radio] child-proofing the presets/settings
Hi: I ordered a Squeezebox radio for my parents, who are not techno savvy at all. They enjoyed the radio and the streams from around the world, but it seems that they fumbling with the control always messes up the settings, particularly the preset stations. I then have to go fix it in person, which does require a road trip. I've tried many times in vain to teach them how to re-establish the preset, to no avail. Is there a way to lock down the presets and settings (e.g. wifi, etc.), so that they can't really mess it up? I don't see such a password or lock setting within the radio menu last time I check. It'd be a great addition, particularly since this is sold as a radio-like appliance, it should be pretty simple to setup and use and child proof, just like an analog radio! Thanks. -- wlai wlai's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41296 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83040 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Logitech Squeezebox Screensaver clock?
To tune into a station by entering the URL you either need to use mysqueezebox.com or if you are connected to a local Squeezebox Server the webUI there. You can then save it as a favourite though, so you can access it thereafter without needing to use mysqueezebox.com or the SBS webUI. -- andynormancx Yes, it will. Yes, all of them. It was just on Amazon for $189, Best Buy had a deal going a few months ago for $149. Just have to keep your eyes open for the deals. I love my Radio, but like others here I cannot recommend it for reliable Alarm use, it is just too flaky. Yes you can enter any playable URL manually and this can be done in a number of ways. However... All SB players must be connected to a server for streaming purposes, somehow somewhere, whether it is SBS on your computer or MySB online. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83024 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

[SlimDevices: Radio] Halloween Success Story
Just wanted to mention a quick success story- Halloween came around this year, and I decided to put up decorations in my yard and give out candy in the yard. But, I needed music. A quick search on Rhapsody shows there's a bit of Halloween music and scary sound albums, so I grabbed the radio, brought it outside, and sure enough the wireless signal was strong enough to reach- and the radio was loud enough to add ambiance to the entire neighborhood! I got a lot of compliments and questions regarding the radio. Great product, guys. This just illustrates the usefulness of portability combined with the ease of use. I didn't even prepare for music- it was an afterthought, but the squeezebox delivered. -- FredFredrickson Get your news and stock updates right here: 'Squeezebox Updates' (http://sb.cnhpa.com)! [SlimDevices: Radio] Anyone Using Radio.com ??
There is an interesting radio news feed located at www.Radio.com. It's a 24 hr feed called CBS Radio News, which is apparently non-stop news from the CBS Radio Network, not a local station such as WCBS or KCBS. Visit www.Radio.com, select News and then look at the list. MY QUESTION IS... can anyone explain how to add this to my SBR? Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] child-proofing the presets/settings
Sorry that I can't help you, but I wanted to say that I think your comment about analog radios is not valid. Even simple analog or car radios with presets can get screwed up if someone uses the wrong button presses or sequences. If you've set it up for them and explained what to do and don't do, their difficulty may have little to do with a lack of tech savvy and more to do with simply not following instructions. If this is a recurring problem, it may be right to conclude that the radio is too difficult for them to use. I don't know if this highlights a product shortcoming. I'd guess that people like many of our parents are not part of the target market, and for good reason. -- Goodsounds Goodsounds's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83040 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] child-proofing the presets/settings
Most car radios work the same way hold a number button for a long time and you store the preset. Copy the server.prefs file it holds the presets . Maybe you can remotely copy back the old one if they get in trouble ? Hmm are they using mysb.com exclusively it's known to drop the presets for some people :( If they change between mysb.com and local sbs I can imagine mysb.com integration mess it up or more common user error when you have different sets of presets on each server. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE rear ch. Some of the issue may be BBC related see this thread on BBC iPlayer Messageboard especially if you are using the WMA rather than the AAC streams. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbiplayer/NF13735684?thread=7854054 -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83035 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

wonder boy;586880 Wrote: I was having the same problems as Hidehi and knew it was a BBC issue as I could easily stream even the most obscure stations from across the planet. Even going through radio time or the BBC app in the menu it was very hit and miss. Down loaded your app and so far it works superbly, many thanks. Can you tell us a little more about the streams it uses? The BBC Radio app supports both WMA and FlashACC versions of the streams. The FlashAAC ones sound slightly better and are the ones used by the iPlayer web interface. The WMA ones are primarily for internet radio devices. One advantage the applet has is that it checks for the stream to use at the time you press play and hence if the BBC make any changes it will use the latest stream. That said it can't prevent problems at the BBC or their content hosting provider end - what it can do though is offer you two sets of streams to try.
