Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] "Internet radio" is gone!

2011-04-08 Thread Mnyb

Radio and app menus will be gone from sbs if sbs can not connect with
mysb.com .

Some users ( mostly NAS owners) have this problem when sbs is up and
running before the host pc have a proper network conection.

is the server log filled with DNS errrors ?

Sometimes just simply restarting sbs without rebooting the server can
fix it.

The internet radio is gone from my Boom again, just like in the thread
'No Radio on SB Server'
(http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86435). Running 7.6
beta. Only local files can be played.

The boom just says:

As I write this, I'm letting SBS update itself. Hope it helps ...

No go. Oh well, it's the beta. I'll just hope for it to fix itself yet
again.

I understand that you don't run SBS -- in my suggestion you would only
have to run it when you wanted to create or update your list of
favorites.

As for getting better Favorites handling on mysb.com, you can add your
vote to 'Bug / enhancement 8692'
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8692). No guarantee it
will ever be acted upon, but voting for it can't hurt.

[SlimDevices: Radio] "Internet radio" is gone!

2011-04-08 Thread fridberg

I haven't been using my Squeezebox radio for some time.
However, now I have installed the server on my "windows home server",
and updates the firmware.

Now the menu dosn't contain "internet radio". I can go to my favorites,
then change library to mysqueezebox.com, and listen to those stations I
have defined as favorites.

I can also enter the console on the WHS server, and then choose
internet radio, but still, the menu option "internet radio" is not
there.
I have tried to reset the menus, but it did not help!

I'm in NL and tried several stations in DK and FR with the same result.
The mysqueezebox playercontrol is sluggish or failing too.

Streaming directly from the stations with my PC has no problems.

aubuti, I read most of the thread you sent but I don't use SBS and,
anyway, I got totally confused as a lot of you folks speak the language
here a heck of a lot better than I do.

toby10, your first paragraph sums it up very well. The MySB Favorites
is a piece of junk. I'd have thought someone would be embarrassed
about putting that out. Seems it's a good opportunity for someone to
come up with some decent changes to it to make it fit the capability of
the radio. And make life easier for people like me.

Anyway my method seems to work really well for me and, until someone
gets MySB Favorites updated from a straight list to some sort of
folder-based scheme, I think I'll stick with what I got. Try it and
see if you can benefit from it. It sure has been working nicely for
me.

The radio came back, but still gets stuck in dropouts every few minutes
the last 24 hours. The dropouts require re-selection of the station to
get going.

It is the same type of server related problem as was experienced some
months ago.

Running back and fourth to reselect radio station every few minutes is
good exercise, but every time I think I should rather buy a cheap
netbook instead of the squeezebox and stream directly from the radio
station's site...

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Organize Favorites

2011-04-08 Thread toby10

MySB.comcom's interface for Favorites is HORRID! Especially for
dedicated MySB usage (not running SBS). Absent folders and sub-folders
it is just too difficult to manage.
I'd love to see them incorporate better MySB Favorites management, if
possible.

Without redesigning the entire Favorites architecture, just use the
existing SBS program for MySB Favorites management with a couple of
additions.

On SBS have a dedicated (even selectable, hide it if you don't want it)
"MySB Favorites" menu item within SBS to manage and segregate station
Favorites from music library Favorites, exactly as it is now on SBS.
It also has it's own MySB-Favorites.opml file.

But now how does MySB get this dedicated Favorites file?
1. truly "Synced" to MySB.com Favorites?
2. MySB grabbing the dedicated MySB-Favorites.opml file from SBS?
3. upload button to "send" opml to MySB?
4. simple cut & paste of the opml directly onto the MySB server?

#1 is the simplest for the user but probably rather complicated for
developers.
#4 seems the simplest to incorporate for developers and most users can
handle cut & paste.

Regardless of method the first item in MySB Favorites is a menu item
called something like "Linked Favorites" which contains the opml file
(just as aubuti & I are doing with a URL through a third party hosting
service).

We're talking about a simple opml file (basically a text file) so even
having hundreds of stored station favorites, organized in folders & sub
folders, would only be a few kb's for MySB to host. I have dozens of
stations in my uploaded opml file and it's not even 23kb. MySB could
even have a 100kb limit which is probably around 500+ stations.

*shrug* That's my idea, keeping in mind I know zilch about code or
server hosting issues. ;)
