And probably not a Linux person, too. And not a Squeezebox person, if
you have no problem with DRM'ed WMAs.

Albeit.. it DOES work on both Mac and Linux PCs (without DRM), it's the
embedded variants and especially the commerical ones that cause trouble.
Try WMA on Android...

Try any iOS App except for Napster, for example. I assume Napster eats
the hefty license fee (or has some gross license anyway).

Microsoft's license fees for WMA are ridiculous and al the free codecs
(OK, I only know about one anyway) are GPL'ed.

WMA _with_ DRM will not even work on your Squeezebox.

Huh? :) I personally have never had any issues with using copy
protected WMA or WMV files on any of my devices when I was using
Napster. I don't seem to have any issues with Zune either. It
actually works pretty darn nice on my mango based phone. So that's
news to me. Not sure why I would have to avoid it.

Nothing that uses WMA is "perfect".
Due to the way MS is licensing this codec, WMA is a mess and to be
avoided. IMHO.

Or pick up a SB1/2/3/Touch remote with the alpha-numeric keys.

Excellent advice, that works for me. Not that intuitive for the non
"experts" but once you know that trick...

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Scroll through long list of artists

2011-10-31 Thread aubuti

This may sound silly, but it's worth a shot: how are you turning the
scroll knob? I find the scrolling gets up to speed pretty fast if you
use a single index finger on the edge of knob. It's much faster than
using multiple digits, especially involving the thumb. But maybe you're
already doing this.

Just noticed that in fact, after a pause, scrolling backwards from A
does jump to Z. That makes things better but it would still be nice if
I could get to the high speed scrolling point quicker.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Scroll through long list of artists

2011-10-31 Thread fredme

I love my Squeezebox Radio but there is one irritant and that is how to
quickly scroll through a long list of artists in order to select an
artist towards the end of that list. I have about 900 artists. After a
few seconds of manic turning of the scroll wheel the scroll speed
increases but those few seconds are irritating and it is not that
intuitive. Even being able to loop back from A to Z (i.e. not have to
go A, B, C...Z) would help. Am I missing something?

Thanks.
