Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Upgrade SB Radio to UE Radio

2013-01-16 Thread Sakkerju

By now, I have collected some spare parts for my Squeezebox family
There are 3 radio's now, one of it is considered real spare for me.

I am not really tempted to move to UE software, it has no added value
for me in a practical manner.
The only positive about it is that UE is an actual supported product and
not legacy.

But I am curiuous about the popularity and sales for the UE Radio
product.
I would not be surprised that the support for (my)Squeezebox(.com) will
last longer than the current UE product line ...

Actually I am hoping not to be forced to upgrade when Logitech mySB
servers go off air :-(

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio refuses to stop using old DHCP address

2013-01-16 Thread toby10

What ComCast is charging you per month to "rent" their router you could
buy your own router (which will be much more configurable and YOU can
set the lease time).
If they are charging you $4 per month for this router that's $48 per
year. For that (or slightly more) you could own your own router, then
saving you $48 per year thereafter, regardless of which ISP service you
may be using 5 or 10 years from now. Over 5 years x $48 that's $240 for
a router that you could replace with your own for like $60.

It is not even a router just a switch ,they go for less than that .

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox Radio refuses to stop using old DHCP address

2013-01-16 Thread maggior

The only address you should get from Comcast is for your WAN connection.
You should have a router which will provide NAT (network address
translation) and also allocate your local addresses via DHCP. It will
also give you a firewall. I didn't even know that Comcast was even
capable of providing addresses to all devices on your internal network.

Having my own router is the configuration I'm familiar with - perhaps I
came on the broadband wagon late where routers with NAT and DHCP were
common place.

With your own router, you'll have full control. They aren't hard to
setup anymore. Connect a lan cable between the cable modem and WAN port
on the router. Go into the config page for the router and configure the
WAN port as required by comcast. Then connect everything else into the
LAN port on the router.

Comcast could help you set it up, or you can google tons of info. Buy a
commonly used router so it's easy to get help. I recently switched to
comcast from Verizon DSL and needed to find out how to configure my
WRT-54GS running DD-WRT to connect with the cable modem. I found the
info pretty quickly and it was easy to set up.

[SlimDevices: Radio] What screen should show when remote controlled?

2013-01-16 Thread bengaldave

Hello,

So lets say I power cycle a squeezebox radio. When it turns on it
defaults to the top most menu.

Then lets say I remote control it with ipeng on my Iphone, I choose
music and have the radio play the music selection.

The squeezebox radio itself stays on the main menu.

If the squeezebox radio was already on the now playing screen, it would
show correctly what is playing, but remote controlling it does not cause
it to change screens.

Is this the expected behavior?

If music is playing, it would be nice to see what is playing.

Change "Settings" > "Screen" > "Screensavers" > "When playing" to "Now
Playing" screen.

You are a true legend, just done this on my retail UE Smart Radio and
now I have a Squeezebox Radio and can get it to work how I want.

Thank you.
