Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] UE smart radio question - BBC bit rates

2013-02-04 Thread MikeSB

Just tried manually adding a BBC AAC feed for 6music
(http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r6_aaclca.pls) and the bitrate
displayed is 56kbps.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] UE smart radio question - BBC bit rates

2013-02-04 Thread bpa

My recollection is that the problem of low bitrate for UK residents when
using mysb.com only happens with the WMA streams. IIRC I think the AAC
streams use a different detection system and so may play the higher rate
streams. However that depends on the UEradio offering the AAC streams.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] UE smart radio question - BBC bit rates

2013-02-04 Thread MikeSB

Thanks. I've tried accessing BBC streams via mysqueezebox.com and they
all seems to be low bitrate (e.g 56kbps) so presumably accessing via
uesmartradio.com would be the same. So it seems anyone listening to BBC
radio using UE smart radio is getting low bitrates rather than the
higher ones (128kbps) they are entited to as a UK resident and BBC
licence fee payer! Another great selling point for the UE Smart Radio
(not!)

I think I'll stick with the SB radio and not upgrade to UE Smart Radio.
That way I can continue to use Triodes BBC applet and get the best
bitrates.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Upgrade SB Radio to UE Radio

2013-02-04 Thread John Hiatt

Thank you erland, I hope this helps others...

I had foolishly upgraded to the OE software and was flabbergasted to
find that my extensive podcast list was no longer served.
(I did like the way all the local radio stations came up however.)
I had also already setup an account on the UE website,
Had already tried a factory reset, and thought I might be doomed!

Was almost going to try gilbreen's manual firmware "baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin
file replacement via ssh when I noticed your post.
I was a little leary of doing this using my linux box and lacking
knowledge of ssh.

After I pulled the power, held down the "<<" key, I got the old logitech
logo screen, my old apps, everything!
Did a factory reset and it went right back to the OE software just like
you said it would - agh!
Did another reboot holding "<<" and back to the old firmware.

OK - HERE'S WHAT I DID TO MAKE IT STICK!
I don't know if this made any difference, but I used an ethernet
connection.
After booting back into the old firmware, out of curiosity I went to
"Settings"
Then "Advanced", then "Diagnostics", then "Software Update"
and here is the message I got:

The software for this Squeezebox is up
to date. If you'd like to reinstall version
7.7.2 r9663, choose Begin Update.
Why - yes I would - and did!

It downloaded, then installed. I powered off normally.
Pushed the power button and yahoo, right back to the good old days.
Went back to mysqueezebox.com and clicked "Cancel the OE upgrade".
Logged out and then back into mysqueezebox.com and...
There on the homepage is the offer to upgrade to UE
NO THANKS! - I think I made it all the way back.
I went to My Apps and deleted an old podcast, and the change was made on
my radio.

Please let me know if this works for anyone else, it seemed safe and
seems I lucked out finding your post.
Apparently the old firmware and old settings are held in memory.
The only thing I had to reset was my wireless router password.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Annoying problem with artwork for radio stations

2013-02-04 Thread calypso22

Just spent a frustrating evening trying to fix an annoying hiccup on my
SB radio.

I noticed this morning, that the artwork for one particular preset radio
station was appearing as artwork for other preset stations.

The problem is intermittent, in that other preset stations sometimes
show their correct artwork, but if I switch back to them later they will
show the "rogue" artwork.

Tried everything. Resets. battery removal, etc. No joy.

Has anyone else come across this problem, please?

John

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] UE smart radio question - BBC bit rates

2013-02-04 Thread pippin

I'm pretty sure UESmartradio.com works exactly like MySqueezebox.com
That said: MySqueezebox.com's servers are no longer in Germany, they are
at Amazon in Ireland and also the streams don't go through
MySqueezebox.com, however, it's probably MySB (or UESR.com) negotiating
them with the BBC servers.

I'd say: try with MySB and you know what you'll get with the UE Radio,
too. There are really not a lot of changes if you use the online server
except for some functionality being dropped.

[SlimDevices: Radio] UE smart radio question - BBC bit rates

2013-02-04 Thread MikeSB

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but I thought
I'd try. I've recently migrated away from the Squeezebox system and
sold my Touch, Boom etc. However I still have an SB radio and am
thinking of "upgrading" it to a UE Radio to use as a standalone internet
radio. My question is will I be able to access the higher quality BBC
radio streams? I plan to use the UE Radio connected to uesmartradio.com.
I remember that there was an issue when accessing the BBC streams via
mysqueezebox.com - only the lower bitrate streams were available because
msb.com servers are in Germany and the higher bit rate streams are only
available to those in the UK. Is this the same for accessing via
uesmartradio.com? Does everything go through uesmartradio.com?
