Yes, the player it syncs with is connected via Ethernet and is rock solid on its own. cjfreitag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41363 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100731 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Without that System (Switch) nothing can connect to nothing. And no - just ask someone about some context Man in the Midle and Arp Spoofing - but thats more oftopic than the "Squeezeboxradio" Topic here can handle. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Static IP ???
This bug for example . http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17462 Regarding the reciever (part of duet ) the Ethernet connection apparently can fail to get DHCP if the gateway is not 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 . The exact circumstance i dont know , i'm no network guru either . its probably some interaction between squeezebox and buggy consumer grade routers . I can only guess that a computer can have more workarounds built it to take care of this ? How many times have you not "repaired" the network on a win laptop (or forced it to acquire a new ip with ipconfig ) on not so good networks . For example the other day one of my less used squeezeboxes , due to some fiddling it was on dhcp :P but i've not cared to corrrect that . I had to disconnect and reconnect again to the network otherwise it rebuffered ? Disclaimer I'm thinking of getting a modern router instead of the good old 54GL (with tomato fw ) I think I start to be outgunned by the neighbours in the constant wifi ch war you have when living in a flat/condo/apartment block :) Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Static IP ???
You would think that a static IP would connect more quickly but the truth is it's about the same as the client machine still polls the network for potential clashes of IP address before accepting the static IP. It doesn't need to do this when it's DHCP as that's a continual job of the server. One my reasons for not running DHCP on the router is power related. My servers are protected by UPS but the router isn't. Hi its quite simple... On DHCP everything is quite easy for beginners - they only have to setup / change their settings once ion a central managed System. So SB boxes are (just look @ 95% of the other questions) are made for homeusers they didnt know nothing about Networking and therefore if the SB didnt find a dhcp ack in the net they pop up a menu to enter the Ip manual. The odd thing about DHCP is - its Dynamic not all homeoffice Routers do ping a Adress to check if the address isnt in use right now and just looking in their database what may the next free adress and told that the system thats asking for a ip. Since almost everyone uses Notebooks / Tablet / smartphones a Powerfailure in the House just restarts the Router not the client - in case of dhcp this might be a problem in case of a static IP - not that much. So the resume is dhcp is fine for Smartphones/ Systems without a Keyboard that often cheges the Network (WLAN) - static IP is fine for Networkers / Server static Systems once setup after that just works Headless somewhere. Btw: Its a good idea to uses separate Networks for separate Topologies - 192.168.10.0/ 24 for Ethernet / 192.168.11.0/24 for Wlan - but most Homerouters cant manage two Networks:p Not allows the whole IP Range for DHCP and reserve some few for statics is always on the todolist. (Dont setup a System to use eg. 192.168.99.10 static and use a DHCP Range that may can handle this 192.168.99.10 Adress - it should only use eg 192.168.99.30 till 192.168.99.40) Gruss Jan DJanGo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1516 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100787 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio WiFi woes - is it hardware or software?
I set the channel of one of my hubs to 6 and connected the Radio that that via WiFi. I ran it for more than an hour without problems, so perhaps this is the fix. However, I still have the feeling that something in the Radio is a little wonky...just small changes in behavior, like delays in responding to button pushes or a very show fade out when I push the power button...but for the moment it is functional. cjfreitag's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41363 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100731 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I've had a couple of power outages recently (due to faulty kitchen equipment) and all of my radios needed to be reconnected to the wireless network manually. The Boom was fine though which MAY have a static ip. When I had my first SB3 I had some issues connecting to LMS which were resolved by having both server and sb on static ips. As a result I restricted by DHCP to only have addresses up to 192.168.xxx.174. Above that is reserved for static ips. I had assumed the problem was that when the power came back the radios booted faster than the router and so failed to get an ip allocated. I'll try setting them as static and see what happens next time I have a power issue - although hopefully that won't be for a while! Squeezebox Plus, Naim nDAC, NAC202, NAP200, Focal Cobalt 816. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Static IP ???
I have to admit that my network does consist of pro grade kit and therefore a lot of the techniques I use aren't going to be available to others. For example the DHCP server does not run on the router it's on my "Domain Controller" - that's in inverted commas because its a Samba Domain Controller not a windoze one. My LMS runs on a QNAP which does have a manually configured IP (could be reserved) but all the SB players are DHCP. I have never had to use a manually configured static IP on any of my SB players - I haven't got a Duet or Transporter but do have at least one of all others and have never come across any issue with the DHCP client - what is the problem with it?
