I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect my Radio's to at least stay on until I, think about turning them off. This is totally absurd. I agree. I think that it is reasonable for Logitech to be able to update firmware if you are connecting to their service, but Logitech has to uphold their end of the bargain. If they are pushing updates they have to have a solid QA process in place that detects these sorts of problems well before they affect lots of customers. -- BigPotato BigPotato's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29342 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77065 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

See this link for more discussion about a SB world without mysb.com. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74901 Yes you can do this with a Radio, but just like the older players you still need to be running SBS locally. This discussion has been about running without MySB or even a local SBS, ie: no server at all. That has never been possible with any member of the Squeezebox line. I'm also quite sure that this is simply a matter of software. The Radio hardware is powerful enough to play a stream directly without a server, but the software just doesn't work this way. Whether is should or not is another question. -- BigPotato BigPotato's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29342 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76875 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect that if you connect your device to Logitech's service that it will require you to update to the latest firmware. Anything else would make it much more difficult for the service to move forward. On the other hand it is also completely reasonable for you to be able to run your own server and never update anything ever again. However, you must be willing to accept that some things may stop working if the external environment changes (OS version, online services change protocols, etc). It's a matter of picking your poison. Personally I've never run into serious problems updating the firmware or server software, and I've been running this stuff since the SB1 was introduced. -- BigPotato BigPotato's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29342 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77065 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

usch;531630 Wrote: They don't. All internet radios I know of connect to some directory server in order to look up the available stations and their URLs. The only difference is that they access that server anonymously, without the need to create an account, so you don't normally notice it. But if that server goes down I'm sure they will run into problems, too. The big advantage of the Squeezebox system is that unlike other internet radios you -can- still run it from a local server, even if mysqueezebox.com happens to be unreachable. The Roku SoundBridge doesn't require a centralized directory server in order to play streams. The target URL is stored on the device when you configure it via the built-in web server. The SoundBridge has a bunch of other problems, but at least for the simple case of playing a stream at a known URL it has a few less moving parts to go wrong than the Squeezebox. -- BigPotato BigPotato's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29342 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76875 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

This has been a known issue for a couple of years at least. It really should have been fixed by now. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Chinese Font for the Radio
Looks like this has been known for over two years. It really should have been fixed by now. I have a number of Chinese titled albums that can't display properly on my radio. They display fine on my SB3s, via iPeng and throught the web interface. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Do I need Squeezebox server?
If you run a SBS you can make use of the wonderful BBC iPlayer plug-in. My understanding is that it can do a lot more than the BBC app on MySB. Particularly it has Listen Again support, so you aren't stuck only listening to live broadcasts. For me this is essential functionality. I also make use of the KidsPlay plug-in in order to convert one of the hard preset buttons into a sleep button. Again, this is high-order bit functionality for me. Of course I would use SBS regardless just because I have a local music library as well as some older non-MySB players. However, that wasn't your question. -- BigPotato BigPotato's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29342 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=74807 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Kidsplay: different behavior on same preset for separate Radios?
My preference would be for the second of these (per-player and global settings). If there was a way to select between the global setting, the player specific setting or no setting for each preset on each player that would be a bonus. BTW: thanks for this plug-in, it has been very useful. I'm using it for a similar purpose (to create a dedicated sleep function), something that I consider to be an obvious and somewhat perplexing feature-hole in the Radio. Why have a dedicated button for setting alarms but not for sleep? Once set, changing alarms is something that you might do very occasionally, whereas a sleep function (if you use it at all) is likely to be used every day. Bedside clock radios have converged on designs that acknowledge this: most require a complex set of interactions to set alarms, but virtually all have dedicated sleep buttons. -- BigPotato BigPotato's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29342 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72801 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Question about mysqueezebox.com requirement
On the face of it the Roku M1000 series (the only ones I'm familiar with) seemed to have a number of advantages over the correponding SlimDevices offerings at the time (SB1). 1. Configure and access internet radio stations without a server 2. Access local uPnP servers 3. Play PlaysForSure media Since they also implemented the SlimProto, you could also use them with a local SlimServer. However, the Roku firmware was always a step behind the Slim stuff and my personal experience was that the SlimDevices were far more reliable. Since PlaysForSure is dead and the SqueezeBox Server software is better than most (all?) uPNP/DLNA servers, the only real advantage of the Roku is that you can access a limited number of radio stations without a server. However, the web configuration screen is primitive and the Roku firmware hasn't been updated in long time. Being able to access a radio station was pretty hit and miss in my experience, with no recourse if it didn't work. In the end my Roku's are gathering dust, but my original SB1 is still in use. -- BigPotato BigPotato's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=29342 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=7 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
