Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] dropping connection after firmware update

2010-05-16 Thread linrey

My inbox this morning had an email with the subject Logitech wants your
honest opinion. The body said:

At Logitech, we're always striving to improve our products, so we'd
like to hear what you think about your Logitech® Squeezebox Radio.

Tell us what you like and what we can improve. Be honest. What you
think is directly linked to what we do and how we can improve. (And it
will only take two minutes!)

We realize you had a choice. Thanks for choosing Logitech!
---
There were 3 questions; what can we do to improve the radio, and what
do you like about it. The third was a scale from would not recommend
to would recommend to someone else, though I can't remember their
exact words. I gave it the lowest on that scale based on my experience.
I wouldn't wish this internet radio on anyone as it is right now. As for
improvements, I said STABILITY!! Then described how unusable the radio
was until I set up my Mac Mini as a Squeezebox Server. Not a
consumer-friendly alternative, though it gives me what I thought I'd
purchased when I bought the radio. On its own, it shuts off repeatedly,
forgets presets, and on-and-on. It's a disgrace to Logitech at this
point.

Thanks for the info. Does this include SBS only or your devices as well?
SBS doesn't try to force me to upgrade; only the Radios and Controllers
lock me into those screens with no way to get out.

My radio does not ask for updates from 7.4.2 if it's running off of my
server (also 7.4.2). It just plays and plays. If I switch to
squeezebox.com, I believe it does ask, but if I quickly hit a preset,
the request is dismissed. I try to stay away from their server.

Many of the people in this thread seem to be using mysqueezebox.com.

Yesterday my Squeezebox Server (running on a Tiger Mac Pro), two
Radios, and two Remotes were all force-upgraded to 7.5.0.

Today the two Radios have frequently stopped while playing songs from
 my iTunes library.

Why are upgrades forced in the first place? I miss my old Roku
Soundbridges more and more every day.

My Squeezebox Server 7.4.2 (Mac Mini Intel running Tiger) asks on
re-boot if I want to upgrade and I refuse it each time. I've set every
esoteric upgrade parameter on the server admin screens to NOT be
automatic, so maybe that's why it's asking permission first. Maybe you
missed one of these settings...
