Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] SqueezeBox Radio battery kit avalible

2011-03-31 Thread mrthreeplates

I just finished building my pack using the Sanyo 2700 mAh batteries
listed above. Seems to work great. My first test yielded a playing
time of 10 hours 49 minutes (streaming FLACs). Charging took several
hours. Interestingly, the pack slowly heated to 45C which triggered
forced a pause in the charging. Afterwards, the pack fully charged.
I've read that the charging circuit / algorithm is pretty smart and I
believe it!

Pictures and such are here:

http://www.cuttingthebills.com/2011/03/diy-high-capacity-battery-pack-for.html

Loving the truly portable radio so far!

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] SqueezeBox Radio battery kit avalible

2011-03-20 Thread mrthreeplates

For what it's worth, the cheapest US source I could find for the Sanyo
2700mah batteries that I could find (incl tax and shipping to CA) was:

http://www.bestbyte.net/merchant/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=BB&Product_Code=BARESAAA27&Category_Code=

Worked out to about $3.10 per battery shipped.

I also looked at the LSD 2000mah 2nd generation Sanyo Eneloop's here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00478GE1U/ie=UTF8&m=AMEAQY81R6T0Z

The 16 pack is more than I need, but these are good batteries to have
around the house and the price per battery (shipped) is good at $2.50.

I eventually decided against the LSD (Low Self-Discharge) models
because I figured the odds of me leaving the unit unplugged for great
lengths of time are really low. I'd much rather have the extended
battery time for this application. Otherwise, the LSD batteries look
like GREAT choices for general use.

I decided on Sanyo because they seemed to have the best reputation and
real world test results. I could have gone with much cheaper
batteries, but I figured it just wasn't worth saving $10 to risk
getting an inferior battery (especially after going through the trouble
of soldering it up).

I also couldn't find a pre-made Sanyo pack that was nearly as cheap
(although that would have been awesome).

Finally, while I could have gotten batteries with flat tops and/or
solder tabs, I would have had to choose a non-Sanyo brand.

Anyway, batteries and kit are ordered --- Hope it all works out. I'll
be careful assembling it and it should be fun.

The only thing I'm worried about is the charging properties of the
batteries that I've chosen. Hopefully the charging circuit, software
and thermistor will have that all covered.

BTW: I've read that the original Logitech battery has a fuse in it. I
don't see that part reference in the kit. Anyone have any info on it?
Or, has anyone taken apart the Logitech battery to confirm the other
parts / wiring diagram? I'd love to see info on this if someone is
willing to post it!

Thanks,

George

Hopefully not as this prevents the use of a server that doesn't run
24x7.

Also, as I point out, power cycling the Radios seems to make this
behavior go away (for a while anyway). If it was normal, it should
happen all the time. So, it seems to me this is (hopefully) just a bug
that was introduced sometime after 7.5.0.

I've since reverted to 7.5.0 as another member noted that this is when
the problems started happening for them.

However, one problem with using 7.5.0 is that there is another bug that
prevents WOL from working at all when an alarm fires. This causes the
backup alarm sound to fire instead of the music that I want.

I should note that WOL works just fine when you press the power button
(thankfully).

So, as it stands, the use of alarms on the Radio and a server that
doesn't run 7x24 is the case that I believe is currently broken.

After a few days, the problem is back. Argh!

I'm running the latest nightly 7.5.4 (from a few days ago), and a

Anybody have any suggestions/tips?

Update:

I tried re-installing r7915 on the Radio that was causing problems and

able to leave my PC hibernating and both Radios connected to SBS.

Strange...

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Strange favorites behavior

2009-10-24 Thread mrthreeplates

Update, this is repeatable and appears to have nothing to do with
favorites (only presets).

After a clear and rescan, the albums title are fine.

Then pressing a preset assigned to an album, it seems to zap the
title in the SBS database as noted earlier.

Note that I'm not sure if it is by pressing an already defined button,
pressing and holding it, or repeating the process a few times.
However
when I do this, it seems to reliably zap the title after a while.

This seems like a bug, so I've opened one:

[SlimDevices: Radio] Annoying Wake-on-lan behavior

2009-10-24 Thread mrthreeplates

Just last night, my new Radio (of 2) wouldn't let my SBS stay
hibernated.

My server is Windows XP and it is running yesterday's 7.4.2 (r7915).
The PC would wake up every minute or so, until I finally switched the
new Radio to mysqueezebox.com (which fixed the problem).

My new Radio was "off", the playlist cleared, and no alarms were
pending. I don't think I have any unusual settings on the new Radio
and no plugins installed. My only Apps are Pandora and Internet
Archive.

Interestingly, my other radio had the same behavior, but it stopped
doing it (so I thought it might be fixed in one of the updates).

Both radios are identically configured, but the "older" one was
just fine with my hibernating PC (it let my PC sleep all night).

As a side note, the controller used to do this all the time and
I had hoped that this behavior was gone for good.

Anyone else seeing this? I love the WOL ability, but not when it
does this.

Thanks,

George

[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio missing in "Choose Player" drop down on SBS

2009-10-24 Thread mrthreeplates

When I connect my Radios to mysqueezebox, I can no longer see them
in the "Choose Player" drop-down in SBS. The same is true for
ipeng. My Boom connected to mysqueezebox.com shows up just fine
as do my older SB3s.

Note: I'm running 7.4.2 and the Radios work just fine in
mysqueezebox.com.

Any fix for this? Is there a bug? It would be nice to have this
working as it makes it easy to switch between SBS and
mysqueezebox.com.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Strange favorites behavior

2009-10-21 Thread mrthreeplates

Having started playing with the presets and favorites
ability with the Radio, I noticed something strange.

I have run into two cases where the album title appears
to get corrupted after a scan. Somewhere in the process of assigning
an album to a favorite and/or preset (and using it), the
title gets cleared in the DB (I assume).

For example, I have an album called "Time Warp". The
album name is unique (so bug 10259 doesn't apply),
and I can find it normally in a search.

After a while, I can no longer use search to find the
album. When I list albums, "Time Warp" shows up first
in the list by name (which it shouldn't, obviously).

When I add the album as a favorite, I get a favorite
added with a null title. Example:

db:album.titlesearch=

v.s. one that works:

db:album.titlesearch=BUZZ%20BUZZ

Clearing the DB and rescanning "fixes" the problem for that
album.

Yet, clicking on the album shows the correct album title
in the web interface.

Anyone else seen this? Is this a known bug? If I find
a way to reproduce it, I will post more info.

George

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] wireless bridge on the touch and radio?

2009-09-28 Thread mrthreeplates

No, I don't have my two SB3s attached to anything fancy, just cheap
computer
speakers. They are functioning as alarm clocks / small room audio
systems. So hopefully a radio will be an "upgrade" for me in terms of
audio
quality and functionality as an alarm clock (dimming display, etc).

Except for the fact that I also using (and want to keep) the bridging
feature as mentioned above. I understand it is difficult to implement,
just adding my $.02 that it is a desirable feature, even for the Radio.

Cheers,

George

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] wireless bridge on the touch and radio?

2009-09-17 Thread mrthreeplates

Exactly. In addition to the use case in a media center (I currently use
mine to network our slingbox), I think having a bridge in a bedroom
device (e.g. the SB Radio) is a great feature. Each of my bedrooms has
a squeezebox and they provide network connectivity cheaply and reliably
for my nearby computers. Integrating multiple logical features into one
box is a great selling point. Just being able to get rid of my cheap
powered speakers is enough to get me to order a SB Radio (provided it
eventually gets bridging functionality).

I hope there is enough like minded people to make it worth Logitech's
effort to add this feature, should it be possible.

Cheers,

George

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] wireless bridge on the touch and radio?

2009-09-17 Thread mrthreeplates

Thanks!, I appreciate the difficulty in implementing it and I understand
that the Radio and Touch are new designs. I make really good use of the
bridging capability in my house with my multiple squeezeboxes.

Unfortunately, this means I'm probably not going to upgrade two of my
SB3s to Radios. Hopefully you guys will find a way (or the desire) to
do this for the Radio.

I'm glad the touch should support it. If it does, I'll be ordering at
least one!

I suppose I could find an alternative to a wireless bridge to network
my house, but the squeezebox was a great solution that solved multiple
problems for me.

Best Regards,

George
