Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] New Squeezebox Radio

By all accounts the battery isn't built-in, it's seemingly just supplied
with it pre-installed, unlike the Squeezebox Radio.

Actually, I applaud this because it means that Apple is going to have to
give up the digital output specs and make it easier for manufacturers to
offer a digital interface than they have done historically (where
they've been known to be fussy about who they'll let have them). It
means you're going to end up with more decent digital transport options,
and of course you'll still be able to use the old products with them as
they all have the digital output too.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] New Squeezebox Radio

The Receiver and Classic are out because they use an older hardware
architecture.

I can't understand, for the life of me, why they haven't launched a new
version of the Touch though. Ultimate Ears is probably Logitech's
highest-end brand, and the only product they bring out is the Radio?!
This would be a great opportunity to justify ripping out the crappy
embedded LMS instance in the Touch, streamlining the firmware on it and
making it available as a UE product. But then we've already seen that
Logitech's marketing department, which seems to drive everything, knows
absolutely nothing about their products and what they do.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] New Squeezebox Radio

2012-09-06 Thread paulster

True, but my point is if you want third parties to do 'smart' stuff then
you should work with them so the things work properly and have some
chance of actually being considered 'smart'.

I discovered the MOG issue when I subscribed to MOG, listened to loads
of albums over a month or two period and I still had no recommendations
showing in LMS. Then I was away one weekend, listened to something from
MOG.com on my laptop because I'd forgotten my iPod and suddenly I had a
load of suggestions based on that one single album.

If you're talking about a move to a cloud type environment for your
customers then it needs to actually work. They shouldn't have to go and
listen to music from MOG.com in order for a function within the
Squeezebox/UE environment to work. And that's the last thing you want
because then they're not using your hardware, which is immediately
devaluing it. This is where you need to think like Apple if that's the
model you're shooting for, and tie up all the loose ends.

This made me laugh because, unfortunately, MOG's 'Just for you' function
doesn't actually work with the Squeezebox system! Sure it lists albums
for you, but they are only based on stuff you've listened to directly
through the MOG web interface and not via your Squeezebox system, so its
use is actually of almost no value whatsoever right now.

You maybe want to ask them to fix that!

It wouldn't have been quite so bad had this been a new version of the
Boom. But to use the -Ultimate- Ears name to re-hash a 3 year old
product that's not even stereo is just embarrassing.

I'm really glad I got my IEMs from UE before Logitech took the helm.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] SBR requires Squeezeserver?

2011-11-16 Thread paulster

The question's already been adequately answered but I would point out
that the acronyms SBR and SBC generally refer to the Squeezebox
Receiver and Controller (i.e. the Duet components) rather than the
Radio, since they were around long before it. It's an easy way to
cause confusion here.

If you hack favorites.opml and restart the server afterwards you can.

I agree, it would be great if you could choose the artwork file in the
favourites editor though.

Is that available with the free DAR.fm accounts, or do you need to be a
paid subscriber? On the new user registration page it shows that to
listen via a Squeezebox you need to be a premium (paid) member.

Otherwise it looks like a good idea, particularly as there is a show I
like which I always miss on a non-CBS station that I'd be able to
record.

I hear you.

McDonalds are an advertiser on a couple of the local CBS stations so I
wrote to their advertising department telling them that they'll no
longer be able to reach any of their target audience who listens via
any internet radio which uses TuneIn as a listings source.

It should only need a few big corporates like these to start getting on
CBSes back about loss of market to get the wheels of change in motion.

It's not like they remove the adverts from the internet radio streams
after all!

Go to Tune in URL on the web interface and paste it in.

Once it's playing you can add it as a favorite.

There's nothing Logitech can do. They don't have any contract which
would allow them to force CBS to re-enable access for Squeezebox users
specifically.

It's either an issue between TuneIn and CBS, or it's a unilateral CBS
decision. Either way it's CBS who are at fault here.

KROQ in LA has been blocked today as well.

Gotta love CBS... er, not.

I did vote on that topic on their Streaming Audio contact page
requesting that they restore the stations. It would be great if
everyone else did as well so they'll at least be aware that this isn't
a popular move.

It needs 4 votes to be automatically confirmed as a bug, or otherwise
it needs the Logitech developers to actually notice it in Bugzilla and
confirm it themselves.
