But there are free programs like NetStumbler if needed. Why? 1. This prevents accidental connections. WiFi devices can only differentiate between different WiFis by that WiFis name (SSID). So if both you and your neighbors WiFi are both named Linksys your devices may accidentally connect to your neighbors WiFi. And your neighbor may accidentally connect to your WiFi. 2. The old a & b WiFi protocols are very slow, if any a or b device connects to your network all devices on your WiFi will slow down to the a or b speed. Also broadcasting in a and b can cause the G signal to be weaker. Turning off a & b broadcasting on your WiFi can give as much as a 20% signal boost to your G signal. 3. Rather obvious, G devices need to communicate with a G signal 4. To see what WiFi channels are in use near you a free program like NetStumbler can be used if your computers WiFi program does not show channel numbers. Ex: If the strongest competing signals around you are ch's 6 and 11, then choose ch 1 for your WiFi. 5. Ex: chs 2, 3, 4, 5 will overlap with chs 1 and 6 6. Just moving the router a few feet up/down or in a different part of the room can make a big difference. Ex: mine is on the shelf of a first floor closet in the center of the house, so the WiFi is basically centered for all points in the house. Ethernet cables are CHEAP so cost wise it is not expensive to move the WiFi router to most anywhere in the home. Cost aside, it needs access to power and how Ethernet cables are run to the router is another issue (might be visible) 7. reduces likelihood of RF interference 8. routers are basically a mini linux computer and they can have issues (memory leaks, DHCP confusion, DNS resolution problems, etc..) like any other computer where a simple reboot can improve performance. Reboot is simply unplugging it for 30 seconds, plugging it back in. SqueezeBox players are only G compatible, the router must utilize the G spectrum for your player to work on an N router. G speeds are more than sufficient to handle any audio transmissions over WiFi (i.e. N is not needed for audio). -------- toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=110161 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Don't bother with WPS. It only adds complexity to setup and no real security benefit. Just use WPA2 alone (not WPA+WPA2). Connecting to a hotspot or just another router? Hotspot typically requires password screen (not encryption password) to access. Radio cannot see nor respond to these screens. toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108570 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

As with anything all comes down to price and condition. Sure these are not warranty returns? Seems odd to have that many in one lot absent a PSU and packaging. Your costs could entail Radio + PSU + shipping + your time to test + box/packaging to ship to buyer + transaction fee (ebay)... In comparison, the original UE Radio, new in box with 2 year warranty, was only $99 and included battery and remote. Margins seem a bit slim to me. :) p.s. Just curious... Post some of the actual URL's in here for others to try. One possibility is how and where you got those URL's. Looks like WHAS has limited itself to only iHeartRadio. SB players cannot access iHeartRadio. You can contact the station and ask for a direct stream URL to paste into your Favorites, but I doubt they can (or will) do this. This is happening more and more with stations. They are signing exclusive contracts with iHeartRadio for all stream content. Makes sense for the stations as they can turn over all streaming responsibilities to a well known national stream aggregator with deep pockets. But it's bad news for other stream aggregators like TuneIn and will eventually make hardware players like our SB's pretty much worthless for station streaming. :( -------- toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107978 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Rebooting router (simply unplug, wait 5 seconds, plug back in) should not cause any harm. In fact it is a good and recommended maintenance procedure everyone should be doing monthly. Think about it what is the first thing all customer service reps tell you to do when you call about any electronic device? Reboot the device. They don't request this to waste your time. They do so because *many* issues are resolved by simply rebooting. Especially computer/software devices (such as a router). cable/sat box, DVR, cell phone, computer, tablet, TV, modem, router, stereo, fax, printer, SqueezeBox player, iPod/mp3 player, etc. all need a reboot now & then. ---- toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107655 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Yes, but if the issue is with his network or ISP (like bandwidth limiting/shaping/filtering) then streaming a 320k station would likely reveal that. Time Warner (his ISP) is going through some major changes nationally including even a name change. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox radio update?
Logitech claimed many customers were confused with SB players connecting to two servers (MySB.com and LMS). I can certainly understand that. So they made the UE Radio capable of only connecting to the UE online server to simplify this issue. But this meant dumbing down the UE Music Library on the computer for local music playback. This UE Music Library also (and only) connects to the UE online server. Big drawback is if UE online server goes down you have ZERO access to anything (online stations or your local music). They also dumbed down the online web UI for UE, SB (MySB.com) is much more customizable and has more features and control options. If MySB.com goes down you can still connect to LMS for BOTH local music and basic internet station streaming. toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106600 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Lost two radio stations to Clear Channel/iHeart radio. Help?
Keep in mind it is the station limiting it's access to only the iHeartRadio service (guessing, haven't looked) Options: - convert your SB Radio to UE Radio, now you have iHeartRadio service (but no LMS) - contact the stations and ask if they have a direct stream url (url directly to their server not requiring any other third party service like iHeartRadio) My guess is they do not offer such a stream (absent a web browser) -------- toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105649 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Yeah, some only require a simple and single click on one box to accept the TOS. Barry Cornell wrote: > Could you please explain how I do this? And must it be my laptop rather > than an iPad? If the laptop is Windows simply google "internet connection sharing" to see how to set it up in your laptop network settings. Essentially you are turning the laptops network card into a router. Typical setup: laptop is connected to the network via WiFi, Radio is connected to laptop via ethernet wire. How you do this on a Mac I have no idea. iPad? Dunno. ---- toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105432 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio says it's connected, but it's lying
Barry Cornell wrote: > the radio tells me I'm connected (without asking me for a username > or password), but it isn't connected I'm assuming you mean the hospital WiFi requires your devices to enter a passphrase and/or login to actually get onto the network. Likely it also requires that you accept their terms of service by checking a box. These actions require a web browser on the device which your computer and iPad do have, but your Radio does not have such a web browser. Your Radio is correctly saying it "is" connected, but it is being restricted or fenced in from actually accessing the network or internet because it cannot see nor respond to the web screens required to proceed. ---- toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105432 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

My Radio works fine on both LMS and MySB.com with the exception of the few stations that have changed their streaming format. Tried rebooting your router? Stations that are not working are from your Favorites or Presets? Might need to update those URL's. Try connecting the Radio to MySB.com directly (no LMS). Same issue occur? Might be your NAS and it's internet/networking connection.
