Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] international radio stations
I think that are 4 main suppliers of lists of internet radio stations that are used by various radio devices. Logitech uses TuneIn (ex RadioTime). Others are vTuner, Reciva (now owned by Qualcomm) and Frontier Silicon - could also argue that Shoutcast/Icecast are as well but only for stations using their systems and most of their popular stations are listed in the other platforms anyway. I have (in the past) been an active maintainer of station lists on TuneIn and Reciva and, in my experience, they have a very similar set. It was rare to find a station on one that was not on the other. In any case, all of the platforms have a way to submit missing stations for inclusion. Whether or not the station is included depends on whether or not a reliable and disable streaming URL can be found and how active their station maintainers are. [SlimDevices: Radio] No radio stations
This morning, I couldn't listen to any of my preset stations or favourites. I got a message about the IP address on each station (eg cannot find ip address for bbc.co.uk). I don't know what this could be, as there is no problem with the router, or logitech media server. My pc was connected to the internet through wifi, and the icon was not red on my radio. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] BBC Radio stations not playing...
It's more that I'd like to fix the problem by correcting the URLs, rather than mask it. Not everyone in our home is a hacker, and they tend to expect that a featured feature (Staff Picks) works -- that is about the first place people try when they go to change the station if they aren't Slim-o-philes. The URLs pretty much have to be downloaded from the server, burned in the firmware, or downloaded from Logi's server. At least the first two can be under your control if you're not tied to Logi's server. -- jef jef's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30360 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72313 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Not sure why you think running own server prevents you from using BBC app - installed from Apps Gallery. Alternative source is Radiofeeds app again from Apps Gallery. The BBCiPlayer plugin also has latest BBC URLs Finally if you want to enter them yourself as favorites get them from here http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/streaming_programmes/local_radio_streams http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/streaming_programmes/real_wma_streams -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72313 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

[SlimDevices: Radio] Internet Radio: stations categories
How do these get extended and improved? They are incomplete - e.g. only 3 stations are listed in National Networks for the UK. And poorly organised - e.g. lists are not sorted alphabetically. Even the names of stations/channels don't match their 'real' names. Almost all the talk on this forum is from technical enthusiasts, but you must get this right to become a consumer product... Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Internet Radio: stations categories
Thanks, Toby But my question was meant to be more general: how does Squeezebox manage / update / maintain the directory of radio stations? I assume it is fed at present from one central server with 'manual' input. I think the radio is a fascinating implementation of networking techniques for a very consumer-oriented product - but its success depends on delivering up-to-date information content consistently. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Internet Radio: stations categories
Radiotime provides the comprehensive directory of stations and this is access through Local and World. Use Search to find a station rather than scrolling. The Apps are intended to provide a selection of most popular networks. stations - not every station. It is an attempt to keep menus manageable. You can always add your own station on Favorites and can also order them as you like. How stations are sorted is point of discussion - for example should BBC station be sorted alpha numerically as follows 1Xtra 5Live 6 Music BBC 7 Radio 1 Radio 2 Radio 3 Radio 4 -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72319 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

You can always add your own station on Favorites and can also order them as you like. This is the problem - there's too many different places to go to find a station. Internet Radio contains some, My Apps contains others, when you've found them from App Guide, whilst manually entered stations are stored in Favorites or Playlists. All of these are completely different menu areas. Plugins for specific radio providers also create additional menus, usually within Extras or Music Services, that has to be manually added to Home menu now. In addition, Radio Time can also be installed as an App. Haven't done so myself, but I wonder if the menus within that are the same as within Internet Radio. ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Funny you should say that, I've just found the issue. I'm on XP and have Kaspersky. I did a search online and it seems Kaspersky interferes with it. Turned it off and it all works. Not an ideal solution though really and having just forked out for a licence for it, I don't want to uninstall.
