[SlimDevices: Radio] Option for double height/larger clock during playback

2009-12-08 Thread joltdude

It would be nice if there was an option to set a larger, double height
clock/icon bar while a stream or file is playing, perhaps with a
translucent background to extend the cover art area...

That clock is REALLY small...
It wouldnt be too difficult to enlarge it without screwing up the
layout...

If all you want is the time, set the Clock as a screensaver for "when
playing"

Or if you want both album art and time, see Erland's "Information
Screen" applet, which allows you to switch between the two at timed
intervals. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=67422

Set the screensaver, but theres no reason not to delegate a bit more
screen real estate to the bottom status bar at least double the current
height... since the song name is large enough (larger there would be
nice but not necessary)...

To do any slight modifications always seems to take a third party
plugin...

2009-12-14 Thread jdoering

I agree that a lot of things seem to take plugins. But look at the
flip-side. For a lot of consumer devices you just plain can't customize
them beyond trivial UI changes. I think open source and highly pluggable
solutions spoil us because we realize that almosth anything is possible
but that Logitech can or will only support so many of the options
themselves.

I wish my car that won't remember to default to showing outside
temperature or my TV that insists on telling me it doesn't have the
current time after being unplugged (cheapo Sony couldn't include a
battery clock in it apparently) supported third-party plugins!

I'll have to check out Erland's plugin. Although if the only option is
to switch between two screens I'm not sure it directly addresses the
original suggestion.

Use "Information Screen" plugin + applet if you like to switch between
screens.

Use "Custom Clock" applet which have a background mode to show the
cover art if you like to avoid switching.

I might throw in this again:

Yet we all know this is not going to happen in the next months if at
all and messing around with a buggy API and lua interpreter doesn't seem
very inviting. Not to speak of the open license questions.

Thanks erland for the plugins.. but 0x has a good point, if anything an
option built in for a choice of UIs would be nice and still keep with
the general theme of the device.
