If there's no voltage, you know it's a dud power adaptor. Even if you get 18V open-circuit, the adaptor may not be delivering this under load, so try another adaptor to see. A third thing is that the female connector in the radio is prone to contact problems - try wiggling/rotating the male plug, and/or squirting in some electrical contact cleaner solvent. majones's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13029 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79928 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I did have a friend check the wall adaptor with a multimeter and he claims that he got no reading. I'm not sure that he's correct but it's likely. So I guess step one is to find a new power adapter to test with. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Take apart squeezebox radio case
I got mine open, and don't know what to do next! This unit was in use by an older relative. (she's now using an Amazon Echo) and was exhibiting power problems for a few days by not powering up or displaying a low battery message. It then died completely and would not power up either via power cable or battery. I have removed the battery and opened the unit. I see no obvious signs of damage, but did find some black grit in places on the main board. It feels like it may be part of the case but I can't confirm that. I have cleaned it up and plugged it in, but had no joy. I don't have another power supply of a smiliar 18V output. I do have a working Squeezebox Classic which has a 5V power supply. Could I try that? I'm completely out of my depth here, but simply can't dump this unit without trying to revive it. Can anyone give me a guide as to what my next diagnostic steps should be? Pictures attached thanks for any help on this. +---+ |Filename: case-2.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=24926| +---+ Sb42's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10692 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79928 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Take apart squeezebox radio case
I have a problem with the headphone socket in the back of the Boombox. It does not disconnect the speakers when I plug the headphone jack in. If I wiggle it very hard and press the plug to one side it works ok, and sometimes will stay that way for a while. If I dismantle the set, can I get at the socket connection itself? Any other suggestions?? I'm pretty sure that even Boom, which shared more hardware with SB2/SB3, used a different wireless chipset. Looking again at pictures of Radio's internals, it appears that the wifi chipset is soldered on the main circuit board and cannot be removed. peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79928 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Take apart squeezebox radio case
So I finished my project tonight. I've attached photos from all stages. Some notes on what they are: I started out with a Philco 38-39 tube radio case (made in 1938) that I bought on Ebay for $20. It wasn't in the greatest condition, so I stripped off its finish and re-finished it. I then added metal detailing with silver leaf. I took apart the squeezebox radio using the suggestions in this thread (partially, at least). I repainted the face plate and silver leafed it. I cut out a part of the wood front of the radio case, and attached the faceplate using lots of epoxy putty. I then took some metal knobs from a 1940s Chevy dashboard and attached them using epoxy to the squeezebox knobs. The top three buttons are attached to the center knob, volume, and power button. the lower three knobs aren't attached to anything but the case, they're just decorative. Finally, to finish it I wired some 3mm amber LEDs to 3V batteries and installed them in the decorative knobs. This sort of mimics the glow from vacuum tubes that I really like. That's about it. Tell me what you think, and I'm happy to answer any questions! +---+ |Filename: 4756197973_b24b1700c7_b.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10223| +---+ -- danicakk danicakk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38874 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79928 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Take apart squeezebox radio case
You can use something like a credit card to pry the speaker grille off. Once you've done that, you'll see the two screws that hold the display/button/knob portion to the case (next to preset button 1 and the volume knob). Remove those and I think you then remove the display/button/knob portion like a door with a hinge on the right side. There are three sets of wires connecting the display/button/knob portion to the rest of the case (for speaker, AC adapter, and battery connections). Personally I've gone no farther than removing the speaker grille, but I've seen pictures of the rest. :) -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79928 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
