[SlimDevices: Radio] Wireless speakers for Squeezebox Radio

2012-01-15 Thread AndyTwizzle

Hi there,

We have a Squeezebox Radio in our conservatory and would like a
wireless speaker in the kitchen to hear the radio in another room. I
know the SBR can work as a wireless speaker for another Squeezebox, but
is there a way for another speaker to wirelessly listen to the SBR?

What products and method would you recommend to do this? Would
something lik ethis do the trick:
http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/speakers-audio/home-pc-speakers/devices/8693

Thanks,

Andy

Why not just get another radio ? They can be syncronised or play as
induvidiuals .
If your notnrunning a local server mysqueezebox.com would be able to
sync them for you.

As suggested, just get another Radio. ;)

Wireless speakers are notoriously glitchy and problematic. But, if you
want to go that route, you could use any wireless speaker system that
can take a simple 3.5mm analog stereo mini plug input (this is the
headphones out plug on the Radio). What I don't know is if using the
headphone out will the Radio's speaker still play?

Thanks for the replies. Plugging a jack into the headphone socket cuts
the radio's speaker out, and I was hoping a wireless speaker would be
cheaper than buying a second radio.

One question: does the SBR have Bluetooth capability? If so, one of
 these
 http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/speakers-audio/home-pc-speakers/devices/8087
for £20 and portable speakers I already own would do the trick. Does
 SBR have Bluetooth?

No.

But google a bit in many places radio is avaible at discount prices,
substantial discount, logitech themself is usually most the most
expensive option.

Maybe a battery for your Radio so you can easily move it about as
needed?

Batteries and moving the radio won't work - we need another speaker so
my partner and I can both listen to the same thing in different rooms
at the same time (without having the radio so loud it annoys the
neighbours).

Cheapest I've found a Squeezebox radio for in UK is £99.99, so we can't
afford a second one right now.

Thanks for the suggestions so far - any other ideas guys?

Cheers,

Andy

Is there a pc in one of the rooms? If so, you could install one of the
software players, such as SqueezePlay, and use the pc like a
Squeezebox. You can sync it to the Radio, although sync'ing with
software players is rarely perfect. If the rooms are far enough apart
then it shouldn't matter, but if you can hear both at the same time
then the sync being off can be really annoying. SqueezePlay is free,
perpetual-beta software from
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.7

If you have an iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or Android device you may be
able to buy one of the apps that supports SB streaming to those
devices. I'm not sure, but I think the sync'ing is no better, and
probably worse, than the software players like SqueezePlay.

Save up some more £££ and get a radio in a couple of months, a wireless
speaker cheaper than this would not sound very good ,imho it would
sound so bad that you wonder why you wasted all that money in the first
place even if it was cheap.

Keep an eye out for offers; sometimes they are hinted on this forum.

Seems that 99.99£ is the lowest at the moment
