Sometimes I think that streaming from big radio stations might be more reliable than the 'built in - but streamed' sounds. The Natural Sounds are streamed from mysb.com but they are also looped so that only a small amount of data downloaded once which is then played continuously. However the delay in setting up the connection to mysb.com is probably exceeding what the Radio thinks is normal. The delay is probably worst in early hours after many hours of non activity on home network because - caches such as DNS will have timed out so lookups will take longer as many tables will have to be searched rather than one lookup. - if using wifi - router will have gone to slow poll and possibly low energy. - ISP do maintenance at night and so network caches/tables/connections may have changed and again connection taker longer - first time. - DHCP leases may be expired and have to be renewed This makes testing hard as a true test can only be run once a night as a 2nd test will be quicker since caches etc. will have been renewed. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81273 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I can't understand why this product can be so buggy. My experience so far with my Squeezebox Radio has been a deja vu for me. It reminds me so much of another product that I beta tested for, which was started by a wealthy buisnessman who hired a very talented programmer to launch his idea. As the product unfolded into a polished prize, the two had a difference of opinion and the programmer left. The owner brought in programmer after programmer who tried to make sense of his code. For years, it took months between updates which often added more bugs than were fixed. (I finally abandoned the product as it degraded into oblivion.) Sounds a little too familiar to me. When Logitech bought out Slim Devices did they hold on to their programmers? Getting an alarm software routine right should be fairly straightforward unless you're unable to make sense of someone elses code. -- BLatSD BLatSD's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38631 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81273 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I assumed as I had installed an app for the alarm sounds that they were installed on the radio itself. -- gcparris gcparris's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38855 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81273 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I think the quality of the connection is a red herring - or a scapegoat. In any typical 24 hours, I spend several times as many hours listening to Di.fm on my Roku SoundBridge as I do listening to the same stations over the same WiFi connection on my Squeezebox Radio. All day long, I have flawless playback on the Roku. My internet connection and DI.fm's servers are bombproof. Yet, every evening when I retreat to the bedroom, I have to fiddle with the Squeezebox Radio's eccentricities. What a difference. -- TJ_ Squeezebox Radio, hardware 5, firmware r9009 - eccentric UI, erratic firmware. (Replaces Roku Soundbridge Radio, RIP - excellent UI, egregious hardware.) Roku Soundbridge M1001 - needs periodic reboot, otherwise excellent. Linksys WRT54G with DD-WRT. PC n/a - turned off at night when I use Squeezebox Radio. Therefore, using mysqueezebox.com. Pray for me.
