Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Downgrade UE Smart Radio to Squeezbox - For Dummies Edition?
I asked for a single consolidated instruction set for converting a UE Smart Radio to Squeezebox OS. With some degree of OCD I could not stop reading and came across Post #68 of http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?97331-Downgrade-UE-Smart-Radio-to-Squeeze-OS/page7 . 12 simple steps including being happy, Perfect! hip hip2b2's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=58236 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98326 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I am hoping that some generous soul will put together the definitive guide to this conversion. Feel free to send the MAC-addresses of your two radios to michael ät slimdevices dot com and I'll see what I can do. -- Michael ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

The downgrade fried my Radio. Logitech is kind enough to send me a new one. hip2b2 wrote: A very sad failure of my 4 month old SqueezeBox (SB) Wifi card results in Logitech sending me a replacement UE Smart Radio (SR). I had upgraded another SB to the newer platform and was not happy so I retrograded it back to the 7.7.n firmware. That is how the situation will remain until there are some significant improvements to SR. I accepted the exchange once I saw that is is possible to convert the SR to SB but I find that not being the smartest of bears I am more than a little confused with instructions that span many pages of many threads (a little info here and a little info there). I am hoping that some generous soul will put together the definitive guide to this conversion. I am interested in converting the UE Smart Radio to the Squeezebox Radio firmware. You are correct. So that means you only need to follow the second part of the instructions. Start from the line -- I enabled the Developer menu ( in the Settings menu press Home+Fwd and you will get a new Developers menu ) from this thread- aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98326 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Downgrade UE Smart Radio to Squeezbox - For Dummies Edition?
I have played with various SSH commands per previous posts to familiarize myself with Putty - so far, so good. I must confess that I have no idea where the authors of the posts got the command lines codes from but that is not really at issue. Right now I am struggling with 3 things and hope for some guidance/help: 1- Where (what command(?)) do I find the directory structure of the Squeezebox and the Smart Radio and how do I access the the required directories? 2- Per Post: Via ssh, I created a symlink in the /media folder - I know what a symlink is but not in this context. What to do? 3- Re. SCP: How do I uploaded the old firmware (baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin) to the /dev folder? - I have never used SCP; I installed WinSCP but get the following error message: Cannot initialize SFTP protocol. Is the host running a SFTP server? As always I look forward your comments. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Downgrade UE Smart Radio to Squeezbox - For Dummies Edition?
1) *ls -l* will give you the contents of the current directory *pwd* tells you the name of the current directory *cd [directoryname]* moves you from the current directory into [directoryname], one level lower. You can move multiple levels via *cd dir1/dir2/dir3* cd .. moves you up one level to the parent directory of the current directory 2) I'll leave this to someone else, because if I do the symlink command ln -s command by memory I get it wrong 25% of the time, and I don't have a *nix window in front of me to check the help file 3) Assuming you are in the directory containing the firmware file, the scp command would be *scp baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin root@Radio-ip-address:/dev* , where you substitute the Radio's real IP address in place of Radio-ip-address Or, if you want to work with WinSCP, before trying to connect to the Radio you need to change the protocol in the WinSCP dialog box. The default is SFTP, but you want the SCP protocol instead. aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98326 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

aubuti Log-in through WinSCP works thanks. It appears to me that I don't need Putty, and can do all the work through WinSCP? Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Downgrade UE Smart Radio to Squeezbox - For Dummies Edition?
I've never done this particular upgrade/downgrade, so I'm not the best person to ask. Certainly you can upload the firmware with WinSCP, and I believe even edit the SetupFirmwareUpgradeMeta.lua file. But I've never tried setting up a symlink via WinSCP -- is that possible? aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98326 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Downgrade UE Smart Radio to Squeezbox - For Dummies Edition?
I found symlink instructions on another thread (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?96256-Upgrade-SB-Radio-to-UE-Radio Post #3) . If I understand correctly the symlink only has to be set in the event of partition space limitations and baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin file needs to be installed in a directory other than /media. Assuming that the .bin file is installed in /dev (it's a different partition with enough room) the ssh code would be: cd /media ln -s /dev/baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin baby_7.7.2_r9663.bin Hope I got this right, I will test and confirm once I receive my new Smart Radio.
