+1 on the dropping wifi connection and icon being red all the time.
When I go in and hit "retry" it fails. But when I select "connect to
another network" and connect to the same wi-fi network, it has no
problems connecting at that point in time.

Same behavior on two radios - only started after recent firmware
update.

Dammit.

Previously nothing about wifi connection happened. Can I downgrade this

2010-11-12 Thread virgiliomi

I just wanted to add my experience... after updating, I've had no
problems with my Radio functioning. I leave it turned on (standby),
connected via WiFi at work. I listen to Sirius and Slacker with it, and
have played for hours at a time with no issues. I'm only connecting to
MySqueezebox with it.

I don't use the alarm, so I can't comment on if that works
better/worse, but overall my Radio continues to function normally.

Wireless conectivity is almost always something else it can ofcourse
happen at the same time as a server or fw upgrade.
I was a while convinced the sbs or sc was totally fubar untill i
discovered that my neighbours messed with their wifi at the same time.

But fw or server upgrade messing with the wifi conectivity thats is
very far fetched conjecture, *mysb.com connectivity* however I think is
a constant problem these days it varies like the weather but is always
there somewhere.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.5.1 r9218

2010-11-11 Thread BLatSD

I remember somewhere on the forum the point being made that the Radio's
basic function is to stream audio, and as long as it's doing that, any
other functionality (alarm, station artwork, etc) is a bonus and can be
discounted.

The new firmware update has turned my consistent radio into a
consistently intermittent radio now. Streams are constantly dropping
after 30+ minutes, and I'm having to reset the radio several times a
night just to keep the stream that I've listened to flawlessly with
firmware 9009 just to maintain itself. Then it takes 5-10 minutes
after reset for the entire home menu structure to appear. To be fair,
this last behavior started a week or so before the firmware install.

If the Rhapsody fix is indeed the only thing that's changed, then
something has to explain why my radio no longer functions basically, or
at least consistently. For me, it seems that with every firmware I
download, my radio gets progressively crippled, so maybe the firmware
install process is where the flaw is.

I agree with one other posting on this thread that the new firmware has
greatly affected the radio's wireless connectivity, at least to
MYSB.com. I hope that the theory putting forth, that the abundance of
connections to download the update is stressing the servers and
affecting operation, is the answer, and this will turn around in due
time. Otherwise, I might as well store it away out in the garage and
leave you happy campers alone in your bliss.

Thats probably right on the money as this fw had no other changes than
the rapshody protocoll wich no other good explanation for the troubles.

Are you using MySqueezebox.com ?
I'm always asking myself whether the whole world downloading the new
firmware just stresses the servers too much?

Then of course everyone gets into trouble after the firmware update -
but not because of the firmware but because the connection is not as
good as it's used to be.

SB Classic uses a different protocol to talk to MySqueezebox.com - it's
routed to different servers so cannot be taken as a comparison.

To be fair - after hours of fiddling and numerous restarts i managed to
get the sbradio up and running, but the connection seems flaky (which is
a problem i have seen from time to time before. (i can add that my SB

If you hold down the "Back" button for ~2-5 seconds it will back you out
of the update screen. You will still get update prompts from time to
time, but you can back out of those the same way.

As noted in the sticky post in this thread, this firmware only fixes
problems that came up recently when Rhapsody made some changes to the
way they stream music. If you don't use Rhapsody you shouldn't see any
change with the update.

But it does not seem worse than the other !!!

I got a prompt for an update, said "yes" and the update ran. Then I
thought I'd test one of the new BBC HD programs and the box froze and
ended up going into a reboot, freeze, reboot cycle. I ended up taking
the battery out and then plugging it back into the mains at which point
it settled down. Hopefully it won't freeze overnight as I need the alarm
in the morning.
I would not recommend this firmware.

I updated my Radio this morning. Upon rebooting it reconnected to my

etc. Basically no hassles here. Upgrade to the Touch was similarly
smooth.

My radio got the update last night when I powered it on (I power off my
radio every morning, not to save power but give me much less headache).
Everything went OK. The alarm went off this morning with default sound.
Hit snooze and saw the "Unable to connect to network" message. The
WIFI icon was blue. Tried to reconnect few times but not successful.
Go back to my fix it all solution -- power off the radio and turn it
back on. Everything become normal again, hopefully for at least 24
hours.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] 7.5.1 r9218

2010-11-09 Thread BLatSD

Thought I would share my little adventure with this update...

1. Downloaded/Installed update, which restarted the radio.
2. Home menu loaded with only 3 items "Now Playing", "My Music", and
"Settings". Waited 2-3 minutes, the other options slowly appeared.
3. Pressed play button, began playing previously queued stream. That &
wireless icon verifies internet connectivity is OK.
4. Chose "Favorites" on home menu, a little busy "swirly" appeared to
the right of the menu text. Virtually locked up the radio, held power
button & restarted.
5. Again, same 3 items appeared on home menu. Waited, nothing. Ended
out restarting another 4 times before the other items slowly appeared.
6. Chose "My Apps", the little busy swirly appeared again, and again
locked up the radio. Restarted, 3 menu items, restarted again.
7. Went to MyApps menu, finally displays contents. Chose RadioTime app
and alphabetically pecked a search for a radio station. "Searching"
with circular graphic remained onscreen indefinitely. Had to restart.
8. Went to Settings/Advance and re-downloaded/re-installed update.
Dead tired, ended up dozing off in the middle of the update.
9. Awoke, 3 items on home menu. Feared that my radio had become an
overgrown nightlight.
10. Unplugged, removed battery, reinstalled battery, and restarted.
11. Favorites, Apps, all seem OK now. Will give my bedtime radio
another run at it tonight.

Not to beat a dead horse, but funny how Rhapsody can have a problem and
a week later a firmware update is released. What about some of the
other MySB.com bugs that have been plauging the radio for so long now?
