The problem is simply a lack of sounds! Find or make some royalty-free

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] How to get a traditional alarm sound?

2010-04-22 Thread RichardDavies

This is ridiculous! You shouldn't have to hack your squeezebox or
manually add a custom alarm sound just to get a normal alarm clock
sound. Logitech can provide 100+ alarm sounds, but can't include a
signle normal alarm clock sound? What's up with that? (What's even
worse is that it actually IS there, just hidden as the backup alarm
sound...)

Logitech, please make the backup sound available as a regular alarm!

 i.e. just a plain old beep...beep...; dod...dod...; or something
 similar. Is that possible?

This is the back-up sound when a stream fails. So you could try saving
a made-up URL as a favorite (you would have to add this manually using
squeezebox software locally or mysqueezebox.com). Then choose that
favorite as your alarm sound. Since nothing will play, it should
default to the back-up beep beep sound.

I would, of course, test this first.

It sounds crazy, but that's exactly what I did. A couple months ago the
travel alarm clock I have been using both at home and on the road for
20+ years finally started getting unreliable, and I couldn't find any
sounds on the SB Radio to my liking. And choosing music just encouraged
me to go back to sleep. So I finally recorded the travel alarm's
beep-beep-beep...beep-beep-beep to a wav file on my laptop, converted
it to an mp3, made it a Favorite, and now it's my alarm on the Radio.
Now I just need to make sure it doesn't show up in any random mixes.

When my wife heard -- and then saw -- me recording the travel alarm on
my laptop she became certain I'd lost my marbles...

Well...this is a classic
Logitech dare to program that many fancy sound clips but didn't even
include the most simple and basic sound
Buying a alarm radio and you have to record your own sound from your
old alarm. ;-)
I guess this is a trend. My newest cell phone have all the funny ring
tone but there is no traditional phone ring tones at all. The problem
may be the new generation of programmers/engineers have never seen a
traditional phone or alarm clock beforethose are now could only be
found in the Museum.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] How to get a traditional alarm sound?

2010-03-09 Thread RussellMrgn

I've downloaded some files of alarm sounds, but how do you get them to
loop?
At the moment they are in .WAV form, a couple are 1 minute in length,
and one is just over 10 seconds.
Would you keep the original format or re encode to another?
This is a subject I'm intrested in, as i've always thought the
available sounds are a bit naff if your a heavy sleeper and have always
used the traditional alarm sounds for getting up.

In the meantime you can SSH into your Radio (use winscp) and look for
