Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio battery technical info

2013-01-18 Thread John Stimson

Eskil, is this information based on your direct examination and
measurement of a stock battery pack sold by Logitech?

I have found conflicting information on where the voltage sense wire
should connect. Some schematics show the connection to the positive
terminal of cell #7, some show to the positive terminal of cell #6.

People with the Logitech brand battery have reported vmon1=4V and
vmon2=8V, so it does seem that the correct connection point for vmon2 is
the wire between the positive terminal of cell #6 and the negative
terminal of cell #7.

Eskil, what does the power status screen say for vmon1, vmon2 etc? I've
looked all over for someone with a stock battery showing this
information but have never found it.

You can get there by navigating: Settings - Advanced - Diagnostics -
Power. I'm curious how they map from the plug.

Where is the Prob?

Before buying my battery pack I considered building one myself, and
looked in vain for tech info.
 So here are my findings:
 10PCS 2000mAh Ni-Mh AA-cell
 1 temperature sensor
 10-pin JST PHD-series connector
Following the numbering convention from the JST datasheet:
 Pin 9: Black, 0V
Pin 7: White, Temperature sensing resistor of some sort. 11K at 27C,
 other end at pin 9
Pin 5: Green, 3.9V, 3 cells up from pin 9
Pin 3: Brown, 7.9V, 3 cells up from pin 5
Pin 1: Red, 13V, 4 cells up from pin 3

It's nice to see that the cells are protected against
 over-temperature.
It's also the reason not to try to copy it, as the temperature sensor
signal is probably well integrated into the charger electronics.
It's also rather nice to avoid fire from the batteries due to the over
 temperature shut down.

I haven't temperature-swept the temperature sensor to get a curve from
 it.

In other words, I don't recommend making a DIY battery.

Dont forget the resistor 191 Ohm for pin9 and pin5. Also don´t forget,
to buildin a temperature-fuse approx 75° Celsius.

10kOhm 25° Celsius is okay

Seems for me that u haven´t spent a long time to collect all data for
ur DIY.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio battery technical info

2011-04-28 Thread Soulkeeper

I bought the original Logitech pack for a quite different reason:

I simply found it very difficult (in Norway) to obtain high quality
batteries at a low enough price to justify the extra work of soldering
everything together myself. The original battery cost perhaps 10% or
20% more than the best pirate pack I could assemble myself, provided
I could order all the pirate parts in one shipment to save on the
shipping costs. Which it turned out, I couldn't.

When I also considered the risk of blowing the warranty, and/or blowing
the Radio itself, the choice was pretty clear.
