There is no accident with neighbors connecting to your network if your network name (SSID) is unique. I agree with both chill aubuti, assuming your WEP issue cannot be resolved ... To keep the casual accidental user off of your router just use MAC filtering, it's about the same level of security as is WEP. I have now worked around the incompatibility by creating two virtual networks on my access point. One using WEP for my older squeezeboxen and another using WPA2-PSK for the Radio and all my other devices. However, I do think that there is a compatibility issue in the WiFi requirements between SB v1 and the Radio. I suspect it's a bug or a limitation that few people will notice - probably not very many have both devices on the same wireless network and those that do probably have access points (like my old one) that supported open and shared modes simultaneously. It would be interesting to get confirmation on whether the Radio works for anyone else with the WEP encryption in pure shared mode. If it works for others then it might be a limitation in my access point (although I probably don't care very much any more). Further points: My SSID are all unique and hidden, so accidental connection is probably unlikely even without encryption. I don't have MAC filtering on yet, but will probably add it over the weekend, at least for the WEP network just to add a little bit of complexity. The Radio and at least one SB1 are in locations that aren't practical either for wired or powerline connections. If I think about it carefully, I can probably shuffle the players around so that all the SB1/1.5 are on wired connections (either ethernet or powerline) but it would mean convincing my son to swap his Classic for an SB1.5. I just tried the Radio on WEP, works fine, connects plays as expected. If I get a chance over the weekend, then I might try it, but I'm sort of losing interest now I have a working solution. I also understand that the security is all rather flimsy. My view is that the more things I put in the way (hidden SSID, WEP encryption, MAC filtering) just make it a little bit harder to get in unless you're determined. Sorry if these are too obvious (ie, things you have already considered and discarded as not suitable for your needs), but two simple-but-guaranteed options are: 1) wire your SB1 and 1.5. If you can't pull ethernet cable easily in your location, consider homeplugs, which run ethernet over your power lines. 2) turn off the WEP encryption. Hmm, it might be easy to hack for anyone who is computer literate, but would completely confuse our neighbours and prevent them stealing my limited internet bandwidth (albeit accidentally). Mark Does your router/access point offer the option of a 'guest network'. The idea behind them is, I think, to allow you to give a password to your visitors without giving them access to your main network, and you can sometimes configure whether devices on this guest network are allowed to see the rest of your network hardware. This might be one way to create a different wifi zone with different security settings. Failing that (bearing in mind I haven't tried to confirm your findings yet) you could always add another cheap wifi access point just for your early Squeezeboxes. I can add MAC filtering, but haven't got round to that yet - maybe tomorrow once I have migrated other devices to the new network. (Although this is hackable too for anyone who knows what they are doing.) Also, I erred in saying that it would have to be the v1 and v1.5 that would be wired. Of course, you could do it the other way around, and wire the Radio but keep the older models running on WEP wifi. But I suppose the Radio probably isn't in a good location for that, either.
