There won't be any SqueezeBox related products from Logitech, if that is
what you mean.

I actually did the opposite several years ago migrated the UE radio to
squeezebox much better. no updates required for there's nothing wrong
with the current build

and the replacement fallowed by Squeezebox Touch April 2010. There are
plans for another product we shall see what happens in 2017

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox radio update?

2016-12-09 Thread pippin

I think the idea behind the UE redesign - not having to switch between
MySB and LMS if your LMS is not permanently running - was a good one and
something they should have done earlier.
However, at the time they didn't have enough of a team left to do it
right and nowadays thus becomes more and more obsolete. Devices become
more powerful so you can now easily run a full server on each one (so no
need to shut down the server with e.g. Your laptop) and people use more
streaming so less need for an own library.
So right now the Squeezebox system is fine and since LMS 7.9 started to
offer the remote libraries there is now a much better solution to
effectively do the same thing UE wanted to achieve: that you can easily
play music from a temporarily available source without having to switch
the player to a different server

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox radio update?

2016-12-09 Thread toby10

Logitech claimed many customers were confused with SB players connecting
to two servers (MySB.com and LMS). I can certainly understand that. So
they made the UE Radio capable of only connecting to the UE online
server to simplify this issue. But this meant dumbing down the UE Music
Library on the computer for local music playback. This UE Music Library
also (and only) connects to the UE online server. Big drawback is if UE
online server goes down you have ZERO access to anything (online
stations or your local music). They also dumbed down the online web UI
for UE, SB (MySB.com) is much more customizable and has more features
and control options.

If MySB.com goes down you can still connect to LMS for BOTH local music
and basic internet station streaming.

Found an upgraded. Logged into squeezebox and my player was there. Once
switched on showed a button to upgrade to UE. As there's an official way
back to squeezebox thought I'd try anyway.

Went smooth, shop far can't see any difference though? Why did Logitech
do this for?

Stick with firmware 7.7.3-r16676. There is no advantage to switching to
UE.

You asked for comparisons/differences. That's what is listed there

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox radio update?

2016-12-09 Thread pippin

Squeezebox is better supported.
If you only use it with the online services (MySqueezebox.com or
UESmartRadio.com) i think these days the only difference between the two
systems are the smartphone apps you can use to control them.
For UE there's only Logitech's, which no longer works on some recent
Android versions IIRC and which is generally a bit special while for the
Squeezeboxes there is a wide range of control apps although Logitech's
own one is broken on even more Android devices.
OK, for UE there's also iPeng UE for iOS but if you want iPeng I'd still
recommend the Squeezebox version, much more capable.

So I'd think it's an easy decision: go Squeezebox, not UE

You went back to squeezebox? There's an official way now reading on
Logitech website to go back.

Do you mean you dumped the whole system or went back to squeezebox? Why
did you dump UE?

I think that 7.7.8 is only for the SBTouch.

It's 7.8.0, and yes, it's Touch only. There's no new firmware for the Radio.

You update the LMS on the computer, to the latest version, over the top
of the version currently being used.

If your not fussed, don't bother.

Will I have to install Logitech Media Server again on my Mac to get
this? What is the advantages of these newer update? Why won't they
update not show unless LMS USA installed?
