Dear Lori,

Thanks to the Consulate General of Indonesia Office in New York, I am
forwarding the primary email respond from the Office. Since you do not read
Indonesian language, the message is basically that the matter will be reported
immediately to the Consul General. You also may contact two important phone
numbers, Consul  Ratih: +13478730812, or Pak Basri at: 6465094188. Hopefully
this matter will be cleared soon.

Terima kasih banyak Pak Konsol.

Salam,

Mr. Sjarif:

Your email and your efforts to assist me to find my husband are greatly
appreciated.  You are correct, I do not speak much Indonesian.. Apa kebar,
termia kasih, tolong, permisi, baik, Sayang and assalamu alaikum are the extent
of my speaking.  My husband was to teach me over time.  I will gladly have him
make contact with this community. I was so lost to find him support here in New
Jersey.  For months before he even came here, I researched mosques for his
prayer, which the closest one moved and the one I brought him to his First
Friday here is 10 miles away, not walking distance and not possible for me to
take him to once i returned to work.   I was very discouraged by that. But he
did like the mosque and I encouraged him to collect their papers for all of the
activities they do there so he could find a way to become a part of that
community.  Unfortunately, he only ever went there one time.  I have from the
very beginning been very aware of how
different America and Indonesia society are.  I tried to prepare my husband
that he would not find a mosque anywhere he may be on Friday to pray at, that
he would not hear the call to pray in the streets, etc.  I also researched
soccer clubs for adults as he loves to play and anything else I could think of
including college which he wishes to attend so that he could quickly find a
feeling of home, community and comfort here.  He also tried to find indonesia
communities but he only found in chicago.  ANyway,  my husband was born n
Bukittinggi but was raised mostly in Padang.  at least from the age of 10 i
believe.  His culture and religion are everything to him.  Even as he prepared
to change his way of life to adjust to American society which he looks forward
to doing, he loves and misses Indonesia.  I told him many times, become as
Americanized as makes you happy, but please never stop being the Indonesian man
I fell in love with.  Please let
me know if you find any information on his safety and location.  His family
believes by a phone call he made that he will return next week, at least it was
his plan.  Unfortunately, since Monday mid-day, I have no information on
anything he has done or if he found help from any Embassy he tried to call.  I
know he did not call a second time to New York Consulate.  I pray he reached DC
or one of the other Indonesian embassies in the country.Thank you.

Salam,

Lori
