Thanks for the suggestion... a reasonable one.

it special... which is the primary reason for choosing this place for
the Rally.
I'd personally rather reschedule than give up the dirt routes.

Suggestion: could you modify the route to not include dirt sections? (I know
it's not ideal for a Riv Ride, but you'll still have fun, and there's nothing
you can do about the weather.)

[RBW] For trade: Silver Thomson Elite post for Black Thomson Elite post

2011-04-25 Thread Rod C
Hello,

I have an uncut, well cared for silver Thomson straight seatpost, 27.2
x 330mm.

I simply want to exchange it for the same version in a black colorway.

There are very light insertion marks on the post and I am the original
owner. This is a well cared for item and I would
like to trade it for a similarly cared for version in black.

Please let me know with a direct message.

Thanks,

Rod

[RBW] FS: earlier years (ie. fancy lugs) Rambouillet 62cm and Quickbeam 61cm. Complete bikes, nice builds.

2011-04-25 Thread John Guerin
Hello RBW list,
Thank you for entertaining this post.

I have for sale two very nice Rivendells.
Number One:
2003 ish (not exactly sure) Rivendell Rambouillet, size 62cm. I
purchased this bike from my seventy year old father two years ago. He
had not used it much. I have put about 1000 miles of riding on it. It
is in pristine condition. Following are the details.
- Custom repaint early last year, 2010, by Rick at D & D cycles.
Charcoal black with cream head-tube and accents. Perfect condition,
not a blemish anywhere.
- Black 1" threaded Chris King headset.
- Phil Wood ti bottom bracket.
- Ritchey Logic-Road crankset, 172.5mm arms.
- Wheels are 32hl Chris King hubs, black laced with Ritchey/DT
revolution spokes to Mavic open pro rims in silver, Grand Bois "cerf"
tyres in 700c X 35mm.
- Drivetrain is '09 vintage Shimano DuraAce 10spd front and rear
derailleurs with 10spd downtube shifters and ti DuraAce 10spd 12/25
cassette, DuraAce chain.
- Brakes are '10 vintage Pauls "Racer S" centerpulls in black with
Campy carbon levers.
- Stem is Nitto/Riv. lugged steel, 110cm.
- Bar is Nitto "Dream" 46cm ctc.
- Seatpost Nitto one bolt "Crystal Fellow".
- Saddle is Brooks "Swift Ti" in black.
- Full fenders of Velo Orange aluminum dimpled.
Serious offers starting at $2450.00 will be considered for the
complete bicycle. If you care to make reasonable offers for components
or frame/fork please don't hesitate to contact me.

Number Two:
2002 ish Rivendell Quickbeam, size 61cm. This was purchased new from a
certified Riv. retailer back in that time period. It started life out
as "Coleman camp stove green". It's been my primary commuter for many
years. Built by Panasonic. Still rides straight and true and is a very
nice bicycle. It has been ridden and shows signs of use. Following are
the details.
- Custom repaint in 2005 by Rick at D & D cycles Oxe-blood red with
cream details and head-tube.
- Silver 1" Chris King threaded headset.
- Phil Wood ti bottom bracket.
- Sugino crankset.
- Wheels are 32hl Phil Wood track hubs, silver laced with Ritchey/DT
revolution spokes to Mavic open pro rims in silver, Grand Bois tyres.
- Brakes are Pauls Neo-Retro touring in silver with Shimano Ultegra levers.
- Stem is a Nitto "Pearl" in 90cm.
- Bar is Nitto "Mustache".
- Seatpost is Nitto one bolt "Crystal Fellow".
- Saddle is Brooks "Swift Ti" in brown.
Serious offers starting at $1450.00 will be considered for the
complete bicycle. If you care to make reasonable offers for the
components or frame/fork please don't hesitate to contact me.

Photos are available to seriously interested parties. Please don't ask
to see the photos if you're just thinking these are nice sounding
rides and you'd like to see them in all their glory.
Email for photos and offers please.
Thank you again for entertaining this post.

[RBW] Re: Riv Rally East and The Weather...

2011-04-25 Thread Montclair BobbyB
I really should also ask the question "How much rain before you skip
the ride?"
I am generally of the opinion that rain makes a good ride better, but
for me the tipping point for skipping a ride is when the dirt roads
turn to mud, or there's little chance of the rain stopping.

I keep a close watch on that forecast.

Those tips are featured prominently on a Bombadil for Rivendell's
front rack installation video

and somewhat less prominently in the Hunqapillar video showing full-
twenty-niner-knobbies

That's my first time to see those tips on the Hilsen. Most Hilsens
I've seen have the lower eyelet only and the top of the tip has that
little strip of cream accent paint.

[RBW] Re: Brake Lever Surgery

2011-04-25 Thread Minh
Ok, that was quick. without popping the lever blade out i was able to
fix it, through some poking and prodding i was able to get the allen
bolt out of the body, it's attached to a square plastic washer. i
could not get the bolt and washer to go in as one piece (would not
fit, when i got it out it came out upside down), but i was able to
carefully pop off the plastic washer, insert that first then insert
the bolt. though it would've worked without the square washer.

Phew, now that's done i'll go about putting the new hoods on, terrible
style of me though, dia-compe hoods on shimano levers :)

"Does anyone else just measure their existing saddle height and add

Seems way simpler, if you are already a bike rider."

I thought this was how everyone determined their PBH.
Or, you can use the stick and tape measure, and when you get a reading
that equals your saddle height plus 10, go with that.

[RBW] Brake Lever Surgery

2011-04-25 Thread Minh
Ok so while changing the hoods on a set of dura-ace levers today, i
took off the clamp from the back, and somehow the allen bolt on the
side of the lever (which you tighten to the clamp i removed in step 1)
rotated 90 degrees as i was futzing with it. now i can't secure the
clamp anymore.

Any tricks to fixing this? do i just need to punch out the pin from
the lever blade and then punch it back in?

I know, dumb move on my part...thanks for any ideas.

I have a pretty much brand new aged B17. Email me off-list. Just used
it a couple of times and it's is perfect condition.

2011-04-25 Thread Mike Irwin
Ok, I've got the seat post handled. Thank you to everyone who had a
seat post to offer. I've decided to go the S83 route on this one.

Still looking for a B17 saddle, bar ends and I'll throw a Dirt Drop in
here. I'd prefer a Dirt Drop, but I'd do a Technomic between 10-12cm.

Thanks again!

[RBW] Re: Anyone else have trouble measuring their PBH?

2011-04-25 Thread Jay LePree
Hi all:

Thanks for the good ideas and thoughts. I think that in trying to
pull up on the paint sticks, I was actually crouching down/leaning
forward a bit, and I also think that the tape measure was off-center.
