[RBW] FS Honey Brooks B17 Imperial

2016-07-01 Thread Jay in Tel Aviv
With cutout and laces.
$85 including shipping to the lower 48.

I'm flying to New Hampshire tomorrow, so I can bring the saddle with me and
ship it from there if anyone is interested.
Last chance for domestic shipping until August when my wife goes to see her
parents.

[RBW] Extent of thread chasing necessary on new Riv frame

2016-07-01 Thread Bob B
I'm building up a Riv myself and am wondering for others with
Waterford-made frames (mine's a Hunqapillar) — how much if any thread
chasing did you need to do to build up the frame?

I'm thinking BB threads, canti brake studs, derailleur hanger, water bottle
bosses, fender and rack mounts, etc.

I didn't ask Riv to do any of this, and the frame is on it's way, so it's
too late to ask!

Thank you,
Bob

[RBW] Extent of thread chasing necessary on new Riv frame

I would chase the BB shell and any of the eyelets that you want to use. Brake
bosses are pretty clean when they arrive. I would also sand the paint off of
the face any eyelets you plan on using. When you tighten a rack stay or
accessorie to the eyelet, I have found that the paint on the face of the eyelet
has a tendency to crack.

Re: [RBW] Re: Rivs on the Great Divide Route?

2016-07-01 Thread Zach Duval
Bartender bags, I meant, not bar bag.

I work in the newsroom for the Kalispell newspaper, and it has been a complete
shit show since the attack. A former coach of the victim (he was a runner as
well as a forest service agent) was quoted in an initial report, and he has
since fled town after the resultant media assault. One of the British papers
put it humorously with a headline that "the bear is wanted by police."

This shouldn't frighten you too much of course. Bear spray at the hip and the
ability to make lots of noise, especially before blind corners, should leave
you plenty safe. Also, be sure to stop in Whitefish for pizza and a delicious
beer!

Sakae FX 175mm, 50/44/28 - I don't know much about these but they look
nice. Good half-step combo. Very good condition. $45 shipped.

half-step possiblities. $45

Re: [RBW] Re: Any benefits to the longer CS's?

2016-07-01 Thread Grant Petersen
It's one chain, just more links. Most chains come 114 or 116 links. The
60cm Cheviot has a 56cm chainstay (our longest) and typically uses 123
links...so, to be clear, eradicate all heads of visions of double chain
shenannigans. It is true that when you buy a boxe chains you have to buy
two of them. But you use only ten links of the second (about 8 percent of
it), so for the next eleven chain changes, you can buy just one chain &
keep using the surplus from the first second chain.

This next is a minor point, but a longer chainstay reduces chain angles and
so minimizes friction and makes any chain last longer. Anyway, the ride
and function should trump the cost of an extra chain that'll continue to
feed to stubs of it for a decade or more!
We can still count you out, Eric--easy come/easy go--but I thought this
point was worth clarifying.

There's a plethora of cargo bikes and recumbents out there with long
chains..it's just a thing you deal with for the benefits of a longbike. And
those benefits are real: My New Blue Appaloosa exhibits a lovely "sitting in
the bike, not on top of it" feel, and tracks straight as a freight train on
fast descents, while retaining responsive steering at ride-around-town speeds.
I dig long stays.

Never buy a tandem, then! You'll need three chains for one of those. Two

[RBW] Re: Extent of thread chasing necessary on new Riv frame

2016-07-01 Thread Kevin Lindsey
Bob -
The only threads I had to have redone on my Hunq were the fender mounts.
The first was problematic (in fact, I snapped a Nitto screw off inside,
thinking that I could use it to muscle through the paint instead of tapping
it as I should have), so I had the local bike shop (Bicycle Pro Shop in
Alexandria (Keith, take note)) do all remaining mounts, just in case.

Yeppers, we know a thing or two about Rivs at the Bicycle Pro Shop. If you

door. Right now all three are there when I'm in. People are usually surprised
to see them with all the high zoot carbon dohickies in the shop.
