“Side hustle,” ha! I have a “hobby.”

The painting I got was the red one, not the chrome moka. That one is amazing.
I’m glad the image is still in your store.
I recently mailed my Europiccola back to the friend who gave it to me 25+ years
ago. It was broken then, and broken now, with a long life of espresso in
between. Two switches and a full rebuild later, but now it has a short that
blows the breakers, and Christopher Cara retired (I hope). My buddy was looking
for an espresso machine and a project, and I want his daughter to take it to
college in ten years.

This kinda takes the thread on a wee bit of a tangent, but if any of you
are seriously thinking like sblain here there are plenty of lightweight
vintage frames equal to the Legolas in build quality available. And many if
not most are 650B convertible. I found a 60's Dave Russell (English of
course) for $250 on Ebay a couple of years back. Oh man what a 650B
conversion it made: lightweight, low-mid trail, and within DiaCompe 750
reach. Rides like a dream.

[RBW] Re: Which Rivendell frame would you resurrect?

2019-07-31 Thread Fullylugged
To me, Rivendell was about making bikes that had "extra" which is not
immediately noticed by the average eye. Grant enjoyed selling bikes that were
better than they had to be. The epitome of that seems to be Rambouillet. Double
tapered seat stays, un-dimpled chain stays, fillet brazed dropouts, ornate
lugs, heat treated and non heat treated tubes used to maximize ride quality,
and a very nice paint job. It represents the high art of Japanese bikes doing
French brevet style better than the French could.

I like my '95 Road (pre Road Standard, which came later) better for longer
rides. It's light (18.5 lbs with a leather saddle) and lively and has great
handling, but doesn't have that same all around character of style as Ram does.
When I just want a bike to noodle around on, I always take the Ram.

Thanks, Nick. That’s good information. I honestly can’t imagine a bike being

No phantom shifts, etc. But then, I’ve never taken it on a loaded tour yet.
Still, I think there may well be a Sam or a Homer in my future.

LOL, you guys are too much. Nobody beats Philips side hustle man, NOBODY!

As for custom, or commission, or whatever it's called...I had a lady
contact me to do a painting of her old Braun drip maker. I'm not sure if it
had some sort of sentimental meaning, as they were not markedly
prestigious, or even terribly attractive. But because of their use as props
in the original Blade Runner, I was well familiar with them, and actually
had the exact model tucked away in my cabinets. She loved it, and I enjoyed
doing it.

Doing the polished stainless moka pot was more or less a work up to do a
larger painting of the La Pavoni Europiccola machine. It's ALL chrome and
shiny...very intimidating subject. But I was super happy with the moka pot,
so onwards right?!

Been wanting to revisit some bicycle watercolors. I did a painting for Jay
Ritchey of his Hillborne, and a drum set for Jenny Klug a while back.

Mark, I’m kind of coming around to the idea of the Pletscher. I used the
mousetrap yesterday and it was a cool feature, even I have to admit. And you
really don’t see the rack under the bags, it’s true. I need the pannier rails!
I’ll order them when I get back to Vegas end of this week. The blue is
different and better, I think. I love it with the gray accents on the bag. I’ve
looked at many other brands of panniers and there are none so classy as the
Sackville line. Rivendell has the market cornered on THAT.
