I thought my mid-drive Clem L 52cm was a smidge flexier, but that could be down
to it being a longer frame. We can take into account me being more used to it
now, too: on today's ride with the bags loaded up with groceries it flexed a
bit and didn't bother me a bit.

[RBW] Re: Walking boots -- not entirely unrelated to cycling

2020-02-21 Thread 'Deacon Patrick' via RBW Owners Bunch
Hike barefoot for a month. Then you'll know if:

- you need ankle support
- you need beefy souls
- you need shoes at all

I prefer barefoot, but given the sharp (pun intended) increase in drug
paraphanilia since legalized marijuana in these parts, I also like to have
extra protection. VivoBarefoot has a lot of good options, and if you need
grippier tread without increasing beefiness, XeroShoes. Their sandals are
brilliant. RE ankle support: when I hiked with custom alpine boots, I
rolled my ankle several times a year. When I went barefoot/minimalist, my
ankles strengthened and I've never twisted one since, over a decade later,
and that includes trail running.

With abandon,
Patrick

Personally I like Redbacks over either rossi or blunnies (had them all). I
got 10 years of use out of a slip on redback boot. Would have lasted longer

Fantastic boots, but very different from the original requirements of the

I really like my Blundstones for riding. Theyā€™re the basic 500 model. Theyā€™re
lightweight and comfortable, though they canā€™t be resoled and the leather gets
beat up and they donā€™t take a shine well. Theyā€™re also weather resistant.

Jonathan requested photos of bike #8, my Eroica-ready Univega Gran Premio.
This Suntour Cyclone Mark II stuff was really a benchmark in performance
per dollar. I've always been a big fan of the self-trimming front
derailer, and the through the center cable routing on the rear der. The
brakes and crankset are timeless shapes, and the sealed bearing hubs will
outlive us all.

[RBW] Re: new wooly sweater large

2020-02-21 Thread Mark Roland
They were, for the most part, "pre-sold out" from what I understand. It
took a minimum order of 250 units to have these made, and Riv couldn't go
out on a limb like that. Apparently they ordered some extra to have on the
website, but probably not a whole lot. I ordered one, love it. Full review
this weekend!
