[RBW] Re: FS: Bikes on eBay, CraigsLIst, and Other Sites

2020-12-29 Thread Mark Roland
Definitely cool, but even with basketballs included, a little pricey for
what you get, and I suspect the Bike Tinkerer would prefer to do the
tinkering. I have a Crust fork, but have gone from no donor bike to trying
to decide which donor bike. Hopefully an early 2021 project. And yeah, I
suspect Grant & Co. are fans of the Crust cargo forks. I think Blue Lug did
a RivenCrust on Instagram a while back, can't remember what donor model.
Fan Say.

Re: [RBW] Chainstay dimples and kickstand kisses

2020-12-29 Thread Mark Roland
Does installing the kickstand with the upper part of the "sandwich" confer
some benefit--maybe spreading the stress load a bit more? I thought having
a brazed on kickstand plate like Rivs (and this Surly) have eliminated the
need for that top clamp.

I agree the bike should be fine with those dimples. Long term, if the paint
was compromised, it may start to rust in that spot and eventually be an
issue. But even without attention, should last till most of us are no
longer concerned about it.

[RBW] FS: Sackville ShopSack Medium Light Grey

2020-12-29 Thread Eric Marth
I've got an extra medium ShopSack, brand new, never used, still folded up.
It's from the most recent run. In the light grey grid pattern. Interior
pouch pocket is royal blue.

Figured I'd offer it to the group rather than return to Riv, have them
re-stock and then ship it again to you, the next owner.

$70 shipped to you in the USA

Re: [RBW] Chainstay dimples and kickstand kisses

2020-12-29 Thread Ken Yokanovich
I have a HubbuHubbuH tandem with a kickstand plate. I found that when I
added the upper part of the "sandwich" that there was SUBSTANTIALLY more
stability to the kickstand. Loaded with panniers, I was convinced that the
kickstand plate alone would have been torn off. YRMV

[RBW] Re: Chainstay dimples and kickstand kisses

2020-12-29 Thread ascpgh
While alarming to discover, I think you're fine structurally but that's a
place you should clean to bare metal, and get covered with primer and paint.

Those kickstand clamp mounts seem to do the most damage when they get a bit
loose and let the edge of the plate get levered into the tubes instead of
spreading the force across the face of the plates.

Was your yellow one the heavy nylon one, or the waxed canvas one? I thought
the latter was called Ducksback and came only in dark cotton Carradice
green. I did own both the waxed canvas one and the bright yellow nylon one,
both Carradice -- the latter was cut more short and didn't like the hoods
position on drop bars; the former was neat because the water that collected
between your arms when you were on the hoods would puddle with irridescent
colors from the oil leached from the paraffin wax. You'd dump the
collection every few hundred yards in a heavy rain.

[RBW] Cutting rack stays

2020-12-29 Thread Joe Bernard
Whelp, I have this shiny new RBW51 rack with way-long stays and I can't get
the search feature here to work so how do I cut these suckers?

Re: [RBW] Cutting rack stays

2020-12-29 Thread rltilley
I just cut some stays on another rack with a hacksaw. I don’t have a vice so I
held the stay down on my bench and went at it. Not optimal but it worked. I do
need a vice here. Next time I’ll likely use a Dremel.
