Nice bike! And what a great photo...out on your bike, packed and prepared,
not letting a little mud stop you from a good time.
Way to go, #RivSister!

[RBW] Re: ISO/WTB/WTT 650b rim brake wheelset

2021-03-10 Thread Roberta
I have the takeoffs from my 2016 Joe Appaloosa from when I decided to go
tubeless. They are 135 spacing. 36 hole. From what Joe Bernard tells me,
they are like these but available:
https://www.rivbike.com/collections/wheels/products/velocity-made-shimano-alex-wheelset-650b-x-32h-135

. PM me and I can send you the pics I took (they are still on my
phone).$200+shipping. And, of course, I'm on the east coast.

About 2700 non hard braking miles (I am not a rough rider no go down many
hills). Rims are in great shape. Every other spoke nipple is a different
color--blue, green, purple.

David, you SHOULD get a Platy.

[RBW] Re: Moving shift levers from downtube to stem

2021-03-10 Thread Joe Bernard
Yeah you got troubles. The stem mount is designed for Silver1 (or Suntour
Sprint) dt levers, and Shimano 105, 600, Dura-Ace, et al, might work too.
Silver2 is a tougher call because they have a larger barrel than Silver1,
your best bet is to stick with the originals me-thinks.

Tough to beat that price for a useful wheel set. I just had a lighter set
built at Universal Cycles with 32 hole A23 rims and 105 hubs for double
that, and I thought that was still decent for nice wheels.

It may be awhile Patrick. I plan on building up a Surly Disc Trucker,
using the Quill rims and Oricle Ridge tires, but the due date for the frame
sets keep getting pushed back, now sometime in May, though that subject to
change. But, I do have the wheels built and tires mounted. So the 46mm I

I do believe that the wider the rim, the wider the mounted tire width would
be.

[RBW] Re: ISO/WTB/WTT 650b rim brake wheelset

2021-03-10 Thread Brendan Willard in SF
ISO: Correct, 100/135 for a Clem. 32 or 36 would be fine. Preferably wide
rims.

Mine:
LX to Synergy are 32h
deore/DH-3n72 to DYAD are 36h
Rich build, so I'm guessing DT Swiss double-butted spokes (silver) 14/15/14g

[RBW] Re: Bike Snob Today!

2021-03-10 Thread Michael Morrissey
The writing of that Radavist article is so convoluted that it makes me
confused as to how those bikes actually might feel.

Re: [RBW] What is the seller's safety with PayPal and other payments.

2021-03-10 Thread Justin Kennedy (Brooklyn, NY)
I've had several successful bikes and parts buys-and-sells on Craigslist
(and here!) and typically use Paypal, Venmo, or cash. But definitely
beware. Someone in NYC recently was selling a Crust Romanceur complete bike
and had it stolen by a prospective buyer who took it for a "test ride" and
never came back. I've also heard of companies being on the hook for
thousands of dollars in merchandise after selling via PayPal and the buyer
claiming fraud.

Re: [RBW] Has anyone shellacked cushioned Newbaum's?

2021-03-10 Thread brendonoid
Many years ago I did this and it worked fine. Can't easily access a photo
for you.
The shellacking doesn't stay that super hard sandpapery feel as long but
the colour holds and it still maintains its protective abilities.
