Re: [RBW] Interesting Riv

2021-06-26 Thread Ian A
The frame has some of the details of a Canti Long Low without the Joe Bell
paint. The fork has some type of mid fork braze on (looking at the photos
on mobile). Mid fork braze ons weren't really a Riv thing in the beginning,
were they? It almost looks like the frame was given an
available/appropriate fork. Probably a nicely made fork nonetheless.

It is clearly a quality bike and probably rides wonderfully. I rather like
the patina too.

Re: [RBW] Interesting Riv

2021-06-26 Thread exliontamer
I don't know enough about the way Riv does prototypes but the clearance,
spacing, and angles look a lot like an old canti-Romulus that I had. The
lugs are way fancier on this though. Maybe a proto Legolas? It does look
like an older model than with of those. Either way it's a super cool frame.

[RBW] Re: anyone push their altus (m310) to a 36t rear cog?

2021-06-26 Thread Lefebeaver
I’m running silver shifters, so it’s not an indexing issue. The upper part
of the pulley cage actually makes metal to metal contact with the cassette
as it passes between 3rd and 1st. When runnng in the middle ring up front
and second in the back, it just touches the innermost gear on the cassette.
It is a newer Atlantis 59cm with very long chain stays, so I had to buy
two chains and add a section to get a long enough chain. I’ve played with
the B screw in the past, just checked it now and it’s all the way in - but
the slack in the spring of the derailleur still allows it to swing forward
directly under the cassette. With the chain length I’m currently running,
the Altus gets pretty stretched out in a max to max stretch, so it seems
like the only place to go is a bit longer on the chain... or maybe it’s
time to add a goat link?

What can I say - it worked. I decided to switch to the Altus for that

$190 - Berthoud Aspin Open Saddle - Brown. It's been ridden just under
150 miles. Treated once on both sides with Obenaufs.

$90 - Selle Anatomica X1 - Oxblood Copper. Ridden once, so lets say
 20ish miles ridden. Never treated.

I wouldn’t trust that Bleriot to make it across the English Channel…

[RBW] ISO jack Brown

2021-06-26 Thread spencer robinson
I am looking for one or 2 Jack Brown tires. I am trying to fit the largest
tire that makes sense on my Heron Road. I can get a 700x35 on the front but
too tight at the brake in the rear, I think a jack brown will fit the rear,
as a 700x32 gravel king is no problem with room.
I think the 1st gen Heron Road was built around short reach brakes so the
rear is tighter.
If anyone has a jack brown in their tire pile or a pair, I would be
interested
Thanks
Spencer
