[RBW] Re: Upcoming Riv Frames

2021-07-08 Thread Chris L
Just an FYI, for anyone interested, but Will told me in an e-mail that the
Atlantis should be back in January or February. That's been at least 2-3
months back, so they may have been pushed to a later date, by now.

Thanks, Marty. I do have the Petersen-era Bridgestone catalogs and I'm
aware of your scans of the BOB Gazettes over on the RivReader archive and a
few other scans on the Sheldon Brown site. I figured the Gazettes are
impossible to find so I don't even bother asking!

Not to suggest your definition of "complete" is not accurate Eric, but the
first few BoB Gazette issues (three I think?) are wonderful too, and led
directly to the Reader format when Rivendell was formed. I had them for a
while, and scanned them for the bunch a while back. Long gone I'm afraid.
Not sure where you would find a printed version now, but you never know.
The '92 - '94 Bridgestone catalogs Grant did are also great, and very much
a part of Rivendell history IMHO. You may already have them. Good luck
completing the collection!

2021-07-08 Thread Jeremy Till
Thanks Jim and Chris for the unsolicited chimes-in. Definitely a great
bike, I just have too many at the moment.

More data points for the tire kickers:
-I measured ETT two ways this morning. Using a level to measure straight
back from the HT/TT junction to the middle of the seatpost, I get a hair
under 65cm as the ETT. Measuring forward from the seatlug to the headtube
on the level gets closer to 64cm. I think Rivendell was still figuring out
sloping TT geometry at the time and there is some confusion about how they
actually measured ETT. Either way, it's longer than stated in the geometry
chart.
-Standover with 700x50 Big Bens is 89.5cm at the middle of the TT.

Re: [RBW] Re: Rambouillet 700c tire fit

2021-07-08 Thread iamkeith
I'm the type who will almost ALWAYS try to max out tire sizes. But, as the
above responses confirm, my Ram is pretty great with 33.33 jack browns and
fenders. It has some magical ability to feel more plush than other bikes
with much fatter tires, without the negative handling characteristics. The
33.33s are better than the otherwise-identical OEM 28 rolly-pollys though.
I'd suggest trying a few things cheaply, before you invest in expensive
rubber and go straight to the biggest you can fit. You might be
surprised. Plus, the ability to run fenders is nice and will go a long way
toward preserving your bike.

[RBW] Re: Toyo Atlantis- Classic frame, New build

2021-07-08 Thread Matthew P
Awesome John.
Neat crankset. I'm almost done building up my Toyo Atlantis.
I'm insisting on using a double crankset and the curved chainstays get wide
real quick.
I love them, but they make it hard to fit the double, with the inner ring
being 30T instead of 24T or 26T on a triple.
123 mm axle was still not wide enough, so I'm looking for a wider axle.
I love seeing the Toyo Atlantii. Enjoy!

2021-07-08 Thread Toshi Takeuchi
I agree with Andy. I had Kojaks with fenders, but it didn't feel quite
right--I felt like I was higher off the ground than I wanted to be. I
liked it better with Pasela 32 mm. I was on an Mavic Open Pro rim. With
that said, I'm sure a 38 without fenders would fit. However 650b x 42 mm
(with fenders) is heavenly!

General information was that you would be able to run 700 x 38mm tires
without fenders and 700 x 32 with them . The latter is how I have mine set
up using Stampede Pass tires on Velocity Synergy rims under Honjo H-47
fenders and Paul Racer center pull calipers. More important is the handling
that favors 32mm. Higher or lower feels less optimally Riv-like.

I have run 700 x 25 and 28mm tires and can really vouch for the comparative
handling improvement at 32mm. I haven't run anything over 32mm on it as I
have seem how much the necessity of wider might degrade the handling.

Hi,

As I gather parts to transform my NOS green Rambouillet frame into the
free-range, Green Goddess bicycle, I particularly have questions about
tires. Questions for RAM owners now and before.

* I’m guessing everyone has had no to little problem with 700x35 tires. If
not correct, what was your glitch? What rim, too? And what 35s?

* And if you’ve comfortably fit 700x38 tires, what tires, rims, brakes do
you have (or did you have) on your Rambouillet?

Thanks much for your experienced perspectives!
