[RBW] FS: Sackville Tool Roll

One more from the bin. I got this a few years ago from a fellow lister and
haven't used it since. Plenty dirty (beausage?), still fully functional.
Comes with two leather straps.

[RBW] FS: Riv MUSA Blue Striped Merino Shirt - Size Medium

2021-08-21 Thread Michael Ullmer
I've had this for a number of years and just don't end up wearing it much.
Always hand washed with wool wash and laid flat to dry. It has a few small
pin prick size holes in the bottom front that you can see in the last pic.

[RBW] Ride Report: 2021 Rivendell Bicycle Works Appreciation Pedalpalooza Ride

2021-08-21 Thread Emily Guise
This past Saturday, my partner Greg and I led the RBW Appreciation
Pedalpalooza Ride in Portland, OR. Pedalpalooza is a regular summer event
here and it's basically fun bike rides about anything, led by anyone.
Usually it's only in June but this year it was June-August. It has been so
fun this summer and a great way to feel connected to the bike community
during COVID. It's meant a lot to me this year.

Greg and I noticed there wasn't a Riv-themed ride like there had been in
years past, so we decided to lead one! It was so hot and muggy on
Saturday, so we weren't sure how many people would come, but I was so
happy to see about 30 folks waiting for us at the start point in Creston
Park. After saying hi to people and admiring bikes, we had a round of Riv
trivia before heading to Coffee Beer for refreshments. Then we biked along
the Willamette River, with another trivia stop on the Esplanade.

Meandering up to N Williams Ave, we had a shade stop at Dawson Park, then
rode up to Golden Pliers for refreshments and to visit our local Riv
dealer. Kevin and Becky are absolutely the best and they were so excited
to see all the bikes. I was super excited to cool off in the AC in the
shop for a bit!

At this point, we were down to about 10 people (as expected-we'd ridden
about 9 miles in mid-90s mugginess) but we had our last round of trivia and
then a few of us rode to the Skidmore Bluffs to enjoy our drinks and hang
out in the shade.

Overall everything went so much better than I hoped! Riv people are really
so nice, and this group was no exception. I got to meet a lot of folks IRL
that I knew from online, and even the leader of previous Riv-themed rides.
Greg and I are already planning on doing another Riv ride in the fall and I
really hope it will not be so hot so we can all wear our wool. :)

Link to check out photos of the ride!

2021-08-21 Thread Patrick Moore
Good photos.

Leah, this one with the dog held in place by a cargo net particularly
caught my eye, because it reminds me of carrying 2 energetic (not to say
neurotic) Shi Tzu in a milk crate bolted to a tandem rear carrier. I had
lashed the dogs in place with shortened leashers, but the female, the
neurotic one, panicked when we exceeded 8 mph and took a dive over the
side, causing the bike and 4 occupants to go down. This almost crushed the
female, dangling by neck, between crate and asphalt, but I managed to save
her. A cargo net would have worked better.

[RBW] Want to find "rayon" or "viscose" men's shirts, short sleeves, woven or knit

2021-08-21 Thread Patrick Moore
The web seems to have few and mostly in black and too big or small, so
perhaps someone can point me toward something that I like.

I'm looking for rayon -- ie wood or bamboo or other plant fiber that
has been alchemically reduced to its component elements and then
transmuted into spinnable, weavable or knittable fiber -- shirts
suitable for riding. Criteria:

1. Pure rayon, or if not pure, with just a wee bit of cotton or anything else.

2. Light colors: white, off white, light blue, light tan, bland
yellow, soft orange, very muted green, cyan/teal, etc. No lilac or
mauve or rose.

3. Trim fit. I generally take a long medium, ie long but slender torso.

4. Knit -- polo shirt or even t shirt, or woven -- bush shirt cut,
straight bottom, not too long, to be worn tail-out.

5. Street wearable.

6. At least 1 chest pocket; better 2.

If the shirts are knit, I'd be very interested to hear how well they
stand up to snagging and raveling.

I used to own the world's largest collection of rayon Hawaiian shirts
from Goodwill, in both tasteful and repellant designs, and rode in
them for years. They are wonderful for very hot weather riding, but
were too baggy -- headwind sails.

I don't want thin wool; I save wool for cool weather. And I don't want
synthetics chemically treated for odor resistance.

Speaking of synthetics and odor: I presently use plastic knits and
weaves for hot weather riding, and if I start clean each time, I can
get ~2, 2-to-3 hour rides or rides+walking-around sessions out of
each, if I hang them up in between and occasionally spritz pits with a
mix of white vinegar and water. But as with wool, or even more so,
rayon never stinks.

Re: [RBW] Re: FS: 2001 Riv Custom $2100

2021-08-21 Thread maxcr
The Hilsen I put up for sale at the same time as this generated lots of
interest and sold within a week, while the Custom only got the question
from Dave above.

I'm thinking maybe the custom was priced too high. I thought there would be
more interest, but of course a custom isn't really a custom after the
original owner had it built, now it's just a bike with a unique road
geometry and given that more and more people want fatter tires and more
slack geometries it might be less appealing to some... Anyway, to see if I
can help get some people excited, here it goes: if you're a weight weenie,
I think this bike fully built, as pictured weighs around 25lbs. Also, out
of all the bikes I have ever ridden, this one is probably the most
responsive and the Paul brakes have amazing breaking power. The way I see
it, this is your chance to own (and ride) a piece of history.

*New lower price: $1,900 + shipping*

Please let me know if you're interested.

[RBW] Re: WTB: Nitto M174 or RM013 handlebar

2021-08-21 Thread Eric M Cardella
Bump

Lots of great information offered, but I still have not found the bar I’m
looking for. It would appear that perhaps I need to expand my search to include
26.0 clamp diameter.

Anyone holding on to a Nitto RM-013 or M174? The Maes Parallel has also been
mentioned as an excellent bar, although I have no experience with one.
