[RBW] WTB/WTT: 57cm Bleriot

2021-12-27 Thread Drurad (Sacramento)
Was really stoked on Joel's 55cm Bleriot recently put up for sale, but
after doing a deep dive in geometry charts I think it will be too small.
My pbh is 83-84. Anyone by any chance have a 57cm they would be willing
to part with? Let me know. I am currently riding a 2003 TOYO Atlantis in
58 I would be willing to trade too.

Many Thanks,

Andrew

[RBW] Re: My Frank Jones Sr is finally where I want it

2021-12-27 Thread Arthur Mayfield
I do believe you’re correct, at least I’ve never heard of one. I’ve
considered building up a Sturmey-hubbed 3spd wheel for my FJ, but finding a
nice 120mm OLD hub has been frustrating. Still keeping an eye out for one,
though.

I have some parts. I have a nitto rear rack, CroMo albatross bars, I think
some MKS touring pedals (we used to call them rat traps). I may have a NOS
Suntour triple rear, possibly a front as well. I also may have a new

[RBW] Re: 61cm Ritchey Road Frame/Fork/ Headset

2021-12-27 Thread Philip Williamson
Wow, that's beautiful. Way under square, which might make it a good
candidate for moustache bars. Or a sweet old 130mm Salsa stem. Or just
someone with a shorter torso than I have.

Lots of good Tom Ritchey content in the old Readers.
Good luck with the sale.

Joe - I like your suggestion of using centerpulls. I actually thought
that center pull required dedicated braze-on on frames but a quick
 research
indicated that they can be fork crown mounted similar to calipers.

Eric - The discussion so far is definately dissudaing me but out of
curiousity - does your take on low stopping power with long reach calipers
+ wet rims extend to center pull brakes as well? I am wondering if it woul
be better off getting a disc braked bike (e.g. VO Pass Hunter) instead of
mucking around with 650bs on Roadini.

That'd be a fun timepiece to see!

[RBW] FS: 55CM Bleriot with extras

2021-12-27 Thread 'Joel S' via RBW Owners Bunch
Selling my 55CM Saluki that is a tad too big for me, I believe the
standover with Baby Shoe Pass 42mm tires is 31.75”. There are some light
scratches a d one large one where it appears the chain came off the small
cog. No dents, was framesaved when built up.

I will post pics below this message, it may take a few messages.

No crashes, little use as it sat for 10 years after a car accident and 2
back surgeries till I stared to ride again after COVID hit. I estimate
4-5,000 miles or less.

Where where sold stripped, added is a Shimano BB made in Japan, UN 91,
Suntour headset that was NOS when built, and Tektro R556 side pull brakes.
The steerer tube was left high when originally built up.

I will pack this very securely, so no worries there.

Ask question please. If concerned on price please PM me.

Asking $900 plus shipping.

Thanks, Joel

that center pull required dedicated braze-on on frames but a quick
 research
indicated that they can be fork crown mounted similar to calipers.

[RBW] Re: Bar tape and shellac combination to match cream details

2021-12-27 Thread 'John Phillips' via RBW Owners Bunch
You could also dilute amber shellac with clear shellac and try that over
white bar tape. There are also some lighter amber colors of shellac
available from https://www.shellac.net/button_shellac.html if you like to
mix your own. The button shellac is also more durable and has a slightly
tackier/grippier feeling when wet, at least to my hands. The "Super Golden
Kusmi Button Shellac" would be nice over white. Diluting the pre-made
canned shellac and applying more layers is better than one thicker layer
which will start flaking off after awhile.

Re: [RBW] From One Curious Photo . . . .

2021-12-27 Thread Patrick Moore
Thanks for these links, Garth; some entertaining old photos in them.

The derailleur modification on June Siple's bike reminds me of the desert
that good bicycles and parts were 50 years ago, at least in NA (not that I
knew enough then to realize what a desert it was; this judgment is
retrospective, of course). This was a time when people actually thought
adding a freewheel to a Sturmey Archer hub was a useful improvement -- I
did it myself circa 1971 or 1972, though true to form I did it to get
closer ratios, not more range. I wonder how that Campy derailleur shifted
with that extended cage. Of course, that era did provide posterity with
thousands of nice steel frames for building up with much nicer modern
parts. (Apologies to CR!)
