Re: [RBW] Searching for bike akin to Quickbeam

2022-06-21 Thread Max S
Mark, that's very generous of you. If none of our Riv brethren here go
after it, I may have to. I previously had a 62 SO in dark green that was a
tad too big, but surprisingly not that much bigger than my 58 cm QB, so the
60 cm SO may be the Goldilocks. Hmm

Re: [RBW] Re: long wheelbase, Hillibikes + tray racks

2022-06-21 Thread Wally Estrella
I confirmed yesterday that a GBW will fit just fine in a 1-Up rack. The
wheelbase is about 53 inches on Gus. The length of the rail on 1-Up is 54"
which is what 1-Up states as max wheelbase. The Equip-D says it can take a
56" wheelbase.

Re: [RBW] Hillibikes are so close!

2022-06-21 Thread Daniel MacPherson
700cc tires. 2.3 inches G-One Speed Light Tires. Very little tread so they
are quick.

So far I love the feel of the bike (very comfy). It feels surprisingly
light given its length and steel nature. My only issue is some
self-steering issues while turning, but I don't know if that's due to
headset issues, the design of the bike, or the tires. Anyone else
experience these issues ?

Sincerely,

[RBW] Re: Wheel building, 36 into 32: in case it's of interest to non-i-Bob-list-members.

2022-06-21 Thread Kevin Reinking
I'm guessing you were joking, but those painted rims would probably be a
poor choice for a rim brake bike; intended for disc. really

I've often wondered about the possibility of a 32 hole rim with 36 hole
hub; figured it could be done, but I've always been able to adapt or come
up with an alternative to that. I am guessing that it probably depends a
lot on the type or rim used, likely one with minimal offset at the spoke
holes.

[RBW] Re: Double Rivendell Models

I had 4 Rivendells at one time: two of those were Clementine's. Rosco Was
stolen, Sold the Atlantis and the larger Clementine, but I still have a
small Clementine which I can ride, because I'm somewhat between a med and a
small anywayz, I originally bought it for my daughter, but she hasn't
learned to ride yet, doesn't want to learn and I'm afraid she won't get big
enough to ride it so, that one may be headed out as well. :0(

Re: [RBW] Hillibikes are so close!

2022-06-21 Thread Paul Clifton
Daniel,
I haven't had any self-steer on my Gus yet, but on my Baby Bike with 2.3"
Big Ones, self steer was always when the tires were under-inflated. There's
a sweet spot on those tires, but they're so big a plush that it's easy to
ride them a little too low. I'd give them 5 more PSI and see how that feels
(if the headset seems allright ...).

[RBW] Re: Supernova E3 pro2...but dont want to run the rear light?

2022-06-21 Thread Pam Bikes
I'm not sure why you don't want to wire the rear taillight. Super easy.
Takes 5 min and some zip ties. I love it. Never have to worry about any
lights or recharging. I run the wire along the underside of the frame and
up the rack. You never see it. I'm not mechanically inclined and I can do
it. So you can too. Always on too so I'll never forget to turn it on or
off. But whatever makes you happy.

2022-06-21 Thread Patrick Moore
This just in: In another thread on the iboblist, someone called Velocity
and confirmed that Velocity is willing to drill 36 holes in their A23 rim.
The context was 559/26" rims, but I daresay if they'll do it for one rim
they'll do it for another. Can't vouch for eyeballs.

They would indeed! and not just because of the color scheme. I'm thinking
of Leah's new riding buddies...eyes agog when she first rocked that racing
Platypus😊 Those rims make a statement allright.

They'd look nice on her blue Clem as wellbut not sure how long they'd
last with rim brakes. Fun rims though

[RBW] Re: Supernova E3 pro2...but dont want to run the rear light?

2022-06-21 Thread Ginz
Coil up the extra wire, zip tie it to the other wire, anything it takes to
just hide it. And, like the others said, tape the two conductors so they
cannot ever touch each other.

You never know if you'll want to use it in the future. Maybe you won't
like the light and want to sell it. Or, maybe you'll decide to run a rear
light because they barely weigh anything!

I have the original E3 and my only complaint is that they don't have a
fender mounted tail light. I thought I saw a fender mount accessory at
some point but I could never find it again. Maybe I imagined it.

Lighting is one area that completely baffles me. Well, anything
involving electricity for that matter, so I generally rely on those with
more experience lest I end up cooking myself or the electronics.

Here's what I have on hand to work with. SP SV-8 front hub, Supernova
E3 2 pro front light, Nitto rack or equivalent, rechargeable rear LED of
some sort. Fork has provisions for internal wiring hub to light, frame has
 no considerations.

Most of my riding is during daylight. When I need a light, it will
primarily be off road and for purposes of seeing, not being seen. I have
several extremely capable rechargeable rear lights for use when needed, so
I don't want to permanently route cables to the back of the bike. That
said, the E3 light has dedicated rear wiring I need to deal with. Can the
rear wires be "unplugged" or are they soldered in? I don't want to ruin
 the
light by clipping them off. I know they're not absolutely needed for the
front to operate since I've never had a rear light attached and it worked
 great.

Any better wisdom on dealing with the wiring? Am I better off ditching
the E3 and going with a "simpler" front only model? If that's the case,
 any
recommendations for something that would suit the need, preferably in
 silver?
