[RBW] MIssing Link closing in Berkeley - whither the LBS

2022-11-23 Thread Berkeleyan
Well, the RBW link may simply be that Missing Link was a Bridgestone
dealer, back when my wife bought her XO-5 there in 199x. I've patronized
them for bits and parts throughout the years, and counted on them being
there. But now, with the tower-ization of downtown Berkeley, they've lost
their lease and will shutter by end of year.

https://www.missinglink.org/

Damn, such a loss. For me, for local cyclists, for anyone who appreciates
the funky and esoteric charm that small shops bring to communities.

Hi Edward — My head measures 23" just above the ears. With the hat sized to
fit I still have better than 2" of strap remaining. Just what I'm able to
observe at the moment. I can't guarantee this will be a good fit for you.

Yes, pretty much. A Ritchey seatpost on the Open and a Nitto on the
Romulus, but the setback looks much the same on both. Berthoud leather
saddles on both.

I can't say that BB drop is something that I've ever noticed as affecting
handling. I used to race a Klein Quantum which had 64mm BB drop, and I've
had that up and down the same mountains as the Rivendells with 80mm BB
drop. The handling on both is fine.

Interesting comparison between the Open and the Rivendell.

Are you using seatposts with the same amount of seatpost setback on the
Romulus and the Open???The STA for a 61cm/Large frame are very close
Romulus 72° - Open 71.5°

Also, do you notice any difference in handling/riding due to the slightly
larger BBD on the Romulus?

[RBW] Re: Rear Dynamo wiring pics / examples? non-fender

2022-11-23 Thread Mr. Ray
Good post with pictures. The Velo Lumino banana plugs are a great deal but
require soldering. For anyone who doesn't have the means to solder,
Supernova sells the same which you can "cold crimp". I'm using the
Supernova plugs but they can be overkill (and long). If you just want the
flexibility to disconnect the tail light under the seat, another option is
to use Schmidt 2.8mm male & female connectors. Peter White sells these for
around .30 cents a piece. He also sells the Supernova connectors for $16.

https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/wiringinstructions.php

If you're dead set to mount a tail light on the seatpost, you can by pass
the light bracket by using the SON tail light for seat post mount version.
