Motobecane. 67" fixed gear. Bar and saddle are much closer nowadays, and my
hair is a lot shorter and grayer. I miss the jersey and the home-made
knickers (very nice wool gabardine dress pants). But I must resurrect
clips-n-straps.

The Legolas was ridden by a Presbyterian Hospital ER physician (I think ER;
not enough of an **s**le to be a surgeon) from Corrales who had a
collection of just about every Rivendell model from the time. He turned
around because of the wind. I haven't seen him for years.

[RBW] Bay-Area bike shipping advice

2023-07-12 Thread Bob
Can anyone here recommend a Bay-Area, preferably San Francisco, bike shop
who will reliably do a conscientious and careful packing job to ship a
complete bike via Bike Flights?

I'm exploring a private purchase of a bike that is in SF and needs to get
to Boulder, Colorado, and I've read the stories here of both excellent and
awful stories about this sort of experience.

Thank you.

Thanks for the kind words all. I quite love the utilitarian versatility of

I found a full sized silky biking and was convinced of their excellence.
The Pocket boy is just as good! If you want another fun pocket-sized saw
that is even smaller check out. It'd be great for cutting small kindling.

[RBW] DIY Nitto rack hoop

2023-07-12 Thread Jay Lonner
One of the downsides of the Big Back Rack is that it doesn’t come with the
tombstone/backstop feature that hooks so nicely into the leather patch
designed for that purpose on my large SaddlesSack. I’m thinking of making
one myself using daruma fixtures and a rack stay bent to fit. Does anybody
have experience with this sort of fabrication? Can you get a nice radius
bend with a bench vise and a soup can, or do you need a tubing bender?
Alternatively — and this is a long shot — if anybody has an old or damaged
rack with this feature, I’d be interested in buying it and trying my hand
at a tombstone transplant.

Re: [RBW] Most Discreet Bell Placement

2023-07-12 Thread Mackenzy Albright
Eric - I am a museum technician. I use my clementine to bring tools do the
different gallery spaces I work in. The bag is a aerial tote with an
assortment of tools I use for exhibition installations. Furthest left to
right is a Silky Pocket Boy saw, Snap-on Ratcheting screw driver, Svord
pocket knife, occidental pouch with a flush cut pliers, small klien
scissors, higonokami knife, pica pencil, and spot for the ratcheting screw
driver.

I have a bunch of other things in the bag like a 12v milwaukee drill,
hammer, tape measure, pliers, various scrapers, square, etc etc etc.

I've thought about building a bike with a Clydesdale and attaching a
milwaukee packout kit to it.

2023-07-12 Thread iamkeith

I've got an unused one I can sell you cheap. I can take measurements if
you need. It is indeed sturdier than the nitto racks, both because of the
fixed strut and the thicker diving board. I got it for my Saluki. The fit
was spot-on (I suspect it was designed for the Rivendell-standard), but the
diving board interfered with my Paul Racer brakes. I don't think any other
brakes should be an issue, but measurements should confirm.

Oh, also added Campagnolo front and rear skewers that I found in a dumpster

Thanks, Tim. The original build video is here: https://youtu.be/0OmJRDn5R8I

Since the video I replaced the crank with a SunXCD 44/26 and the front and
rear derailers with Suntour Cyclones. The rear cassette is one of the
S-Ride 7 speeds, 12-32, I believe.
