[RBW] FS: Dromarti leather cycling shoes

2023-08-18 Thread David Linden
I would like to sell a pair of size 45 brown Dromarti Sportivo cycling
shoes' These are listed as men's shoes, are new in the box,, never worn. I
purchased these about 4-5 years ago when it appeared that the oriiginal
company owner was going to close the business.

I already owned a pair of brown and also black Sportivo's, liked them so
much that I wanted to keep another pair for the future. Little did I know
jjust how long they lhave lasted with little signs of wear. Unlike me!
The company has since been taken over by by it's current owner.

They are size 45 retro style, nicely adjustable with waxed laces. The most
comfortable cycling shoes in my experience. Soft leather with soft leather
liners. They fit me like Shimano shoes. Would not advise guys with super
wide feet to apply. Check out Dromarti.com for high res photos. These appear
to be Jan Heine's favorite shoe and I learned of them via Jan's Bicycle
Quarterly.

Current price is $325 including shipping from the UK. I would like to get
at least $275 including shipping. Not a big savings from retail, but $50
is $50, if you have been yearning to try these. Thanks for looking.

Re: [RBW] NMSW

2023-08-18 Thread John Rinker
Hey Josh,

I recently built up some Velocity Cliffhangers with nmsw. I also have a set
that do have machined sidewalls. I've run them both- mostly in dry
conditions, but some wet- and I can't really tell any difference in
stopping time or power. I have a pair of Avid arch supremes doing the rim
grabbing and they are amazing. So, maybe in comes down to the kind of
brakes, but in my case no discernable difference.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, John

[RBW] FS: Rosco Mtn mixte x Crust cargo x kid bike

2023-08-18 Thread Drw
Well, it is a sad day, but the time has come to let go of my 2018 Rosco
Bubbe Mountain "Mixte" as it was called. I bought this to carry my kid
around and he is now too heavy for the seat. For those unfamiliar, this was
built around a Joe Appaloosa fork and is more or less equivalent to a Clem
L, but not as long . It is a 55cm and 650b. This is a really fun bike.
Without a child on the back, it is a zippy little cargo bike. With a kid
and a fully loaded front, it's like a truck. I've carried so much with
this. Excellent condition.
PHOTOS HERE

I can see 4 ways of selling it

*1-Complete- $1700. *You'd get a fully built bike with the cargo fork
installed plus original fork/front wheel/tire etc. it would not be possible
to ship it this way, so you would need to pick up in Los Angeles. Pricing
this option lower because it would be significantly easier on me. If you
want a deal on the Thule Yepp child seat/rack, we can discuss that as well.

*2-Original- $1600. *You'd get a fully built rosco (minus a stem) with
original fork and 650b wheels and all components listed below. I could
ship at buyer's cost.

*3- Cargo fork/wheel/disc brake/basket-$400*

*4-Full Part out. *I really don't want to have to do this, but if after a
couple of weeks, I have enough people who want the various bits, I could
make it happen.

*Components*
Nitto handlebars (cant remember the model)
Microshift 10 speed thumb shifter
Shimano Brake levers
Dimension stem

Avid disc brake
Deore V brakes

IRD Mjolnir 1x crank with Surly 36t ring
XT 10 speed rear derailler
Sunrace giant cassette

650b Wheels from Riv- Deore hubs, Alex rims, built by Velocity
WTB horizon tires
20" wheel from Bike Friday- Shimano hub
Big apple tire and a new Tioga powerblock to throw in

Giant Wald basket.

(Saddle, pedals, grips, bottle cages, bell, lights not included)

*Thanks,*
*Drew in Los Angeles*

[RBW] wtb 100-110mm nitto not-so-high quill stem

2023-08-18 Thread Brent Knepper
Hey pals, I'm looking for a stem for my build with a tall headtube and tall
26.0 bars, rendering the couple of talluxes I got as too tall :/

Anyone have anything on hand? I'm looking in the direction of a dynamic or
pearl with a 26.0 clamp, sub 200mm quill length. Maybe I got the model
names mixed up, but yeah kinda a reguar degular road bike quill stem. Happy
to consider other brands/older model stuff as well

Thanks!
Brent in Chicago

Re: [RBW] Re: Alternatives to Snoqualmie Pass?

2023-08-18 Thread Adam
No flats!

I had two on one ride earlier in the week--that was the prompt for this
thread. To be fair, my rear tire has lots of holes and cuts and has been
through plenty, so I"m not shocked.

FWIW, my favorite mud/dirt setup has been Hurricane Ridge front, Snoqualmie
Pass rear--the only issue for me is that I like having fenders, and don't
feel great about 52mm fenders over the Hurricane Ridge offroad.

Re: [RBW] A College Clem

2023-08-18 Thread Leah Peterson
Hi David, Thank you for asking about Dad. Dad was a darling, the kind of man you love to love. He died too young, only 62.Dad taught me many things, but this is a lesson he never meant to teach…Dad took meticulous care of his things. He collected historical books and had each one jacketed at our local library. He never used soap in the whirlpool, believing it would wreck it. He put a tablecloth over their Amish-made dining room table, fearing that the wood would be scratched. He was gentle and careful and he tried to keep his things looking new. He always said when he retired he would buy two things: a new pickup and a new boat. He got a ding in the prop of that new boat and agonized over it. He planned to replace the propeller so it would look new again. He hesitated to trailer the boat to my brother’s house across the state, fearing some sort of cosmetic damage would befall it. (Mom forced his hand because she wanted to take the grandkids boating.) He got his new truck but mostly drove his old one, wanting to “keep the miles off” the new one. The beautiful, expensive new truck sat, parked in the driveway. He died suddenly, soon after retiring. The truck was the first thing we sold. Dad taught me a lot of things, but his final, unintended lesson taught me not to sit on my treasures, but to use them and enjoy them. Thanks again,LeahSent from my iPhoneOn Aug 18, 2023, at 12:37 PM, David Jones wrote:Well, Leah, you sure opened up a thread that everyone seems to want to weigh in on, and a thread that seems to be enjoying a longevity that few can match. One thought I had that hasn't been covered by anyone, yet, is:  "What would your father's wishes be for this bike?  Which of the different actions you are considering would honor his memory to the fullest degree possible?" My original, brief, response was to keep it home during college to protect it from being stolen.  My thinking was that "it's a long life" and your son will have a better chance of staying connected to his grandfather by having decades to enjoy riding the bike.  But if your father was a person who was a "pin your ears back" risk taker who approached life as if there were no guarantees of tomorrow or appreciated a certain detachment to "things," then by all means "seize the day" and send the bike with your son to college, fully recognizing the inherent risks involved and, hopefully, having made peace with the possibility of him graduating from college without the bike in his possession.David JonesOn Wed, Aug 16, 2023 at 12:52 PM Davey Two Shoes wrote:Send Grandpa's Clem! On Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 6:29:17 PM UTC-4 Will wrote:Oh yes it might help a bit if the bike didn't look so new. Ted (and All)-

I don't think I've ever gotten more than 1500 miles out of a set of
Extralights. By the that time the rear tire is usually slick and both tires
have several tread slashes in them.

I've had a lot of luck with the Barlow Passes (running tubeless) in standard

Re: [RBW] A College Clem

2023-08-18 Thread David Jones
Well, Leah, you sure opened up a thread that everyone seems to want to
weigh in on, and a thread that seems to be enjoying a longevity that few
can match.

One thought I had that hasn't been covered by anyone, yet, is: "What would
your father's wishes be for this bike? Which of the different actions you
are considering would honor his memory to the fullest degree possible?"

My original, brief, response was to keep it home during college to protect
it from being stolen. My thinking was that "it's a long life" and your son
will have a better chance of staying connected to his grandfather by having
decades to enjoy riding the bike. But if your father was a person who was
a "pin your ears back" risk taker who approached life as if there were no
guarantees of tomorrow or appreciated a certain detachment to "things,"
then by all means "seize the day" and send the bike with your son to
college, fully recognizing the inherent risks involved and, hopefully,
having made peace with the possibility of him graduating from college
without the bike in his possession.

Re: [RBW] Re: Alternatives to Snoqualmie Pass?

2023-08-18 Thread Ted W
My experience with RH tires (tubeless) is that their dual-purpose tires are
more durable than their all-road tires. I have always used the endurance
casing versions and found that I constantly get punctures on their
all-roads (most recently with the Naches Pass). On the other hand, their
dual-purpose knobbies (such as Oracle Ridge and Fleecer Ridge) last much
longer.

I’m sure riding surface and environment makes a large difference. My riding
tends to be mostly urban, mixed surface. I probably encounter more glass
and other sharp objects than some people.

I think that's only true if you pay retail for your tires. I don't. It's
very common to find Continental tires well below MSRP (
https://bikecloset.com/product/continental-terra-speed-700-x-40-cream-sidewall-fold-protection-tr-black-chili/
sells the Terraspeed for $40). Try finding Rene Herse tires for anywhere
close to that price. You can't. I can buy 4 Terraspeed tires for the price
of a pair of Rene Herse tires. The difference is just as extreme if you
compare Continental GP5000 700x32 against the Rene Herse equivalents.

I'm a cheapskate though, and don't hesitate to run $10 SRAM 11s chains when
I can find them, and back before tires were cheap in the US I'd import them
from England or other places in Europe where there's significant price
competition for bike parts. At one point when Avocet was going out of
business I bought a 3 year supply of their tires at $10/pop.

I have had nothing but VERY positive experiences with Rene Herse tires and
I don't think their prices are out of line with other options. I've been
getting thousands of kilometers out of their tires with EL casings and no
more punctures than expected, with the caveat that if you try to push the
life too far the tread gets very thin and the punctures will start to come
more often. My two Sams are 650B, one of them on Gravel King slicks and the
other on Ultradynmico Cava JFF. I've ridden the Gravel Kings on mixed
road/gravel/hiking trail, including some very hilly stuff, and I think
they're pretty much the equivalent of standard or endurance casing RH. I've
ridden the Cavas on dirt and pavement with some reasonably steep stuff and
I don't like them nearly as much. Only a few hundred kms on each, so far,
so can't say anything about the durability. None of them have any traction
in mud. If that's an important issue, I'm a big fan of the tread on RH
knobby tires, which I've been using in the winter on my Breadwinner G-Road.
They're certainly not as silent as Jan would have you believe, but they're
not slow.

I don't think there is any component that has a bigger impact on how a bike
feels than tires.

Re: [RBW] Alternatives to Snoqualmie Pass?

2023-08-18 Thread Josh (BertoBerg)
Hello All-

I am just coming off of 1200 miles with the Snoqualmie Pass Extralight
tires.

Goods:
Ride was great,
Speed was great
Weight was great
Handled all of the gravel I could throw at it

Bads:
Had to put extra sealant in them several times just to get them to hold
air. I used the RH recommended Panaracer sealant
If you had to deflate the tire for any reason they wouldn't seal again
until you added more sealant.
Super susceptible to glass punctures.
After getting three or four punctures in the last few hundred miles I
called it quits.
Having to clean sealant off my legs, back, and bike.
Price (Obviously)
_

I switched over to Continental Terra Speed 40mm tires. They are
significantly heavier and way less plush but they hold air. Once you get
them up to speed they roll pretty fast though.

Thanks, I'll see how the Terra Speeds compare. I agree about price, it's
just too much for something expendable.

I'm not looking for mud tires at all, just thought I'd throw my overall

Hi all — Looking for $50 plus shipping to you, price is net to me :o)

Ibex cycling shorts. Black, 92% merino, 6% poly, 2% lycra. Made in USA.
Poly pad. These are in great overall shape, some light abrasions on the
rear panels below the pad as shown.

There are labeled a size medium but check these measurements to ensure
best fit. Lots of stretch in them but not stretched out or over-stretched.

- Waist laid flat, not stretched: 14"
- Inseam: 9"
- Rise: 18"

Re: [RBW] Alternatives to Snoqualmie Pass?

2023-08-18 Thread Adam
My tires are around 40-41mm on Dyads (19mm, I think).

Great feel, fast, horrible in mud, great in everything else, maybe a little
too fragile for what they enable me to ride.

I'm going to try the Terra Speed see how it goes. The price on those is
very good at the moment, and I'd feel OK with those under 52mm fenders, I
think.
