Am I understanding that you're selling your not-yet-delivered Homer frame

[RBW] Re: Style on the bike

2023-09-14 Thread Sarah Carlson
It's not very glamorous, but when I wear wide leg pants I just roll it up
ridiculously high and take off. With the other stuff going on in the bay
area I'm sure my rolled up pant leg is not going to catch anyone's
attention. No bike grease yet!

[RBW] Re: Tire advice for my Toyo homer/max tire size

2023-09-14 Thread Mack Penner
Hi James,
My 67cm Toyo Homer wouldn't clear a knobby 44, I don't think. With Dyad
rims (18.6mm internal), I've run 43mm Gravel King SKs (not exactly knobby)
and that was just fine, although it was admittedly very tight at the
chainstays, and if I recall those tires were measuring in the neighbourhood
of 41.??mm actual when mounted. When I was running wider rims (Crust, 23mm
internal), 40mm was about the max in the rear, and even a 38 wasn't exactly
swimming in mms of clearance. In the fork, a knobby 44 would probably clear
(I ran the 43mm Gravel King SK on the Crust rim with no clearance concerns
at all in the fork). FWIW, I think my next Homer tires will be 40mm
Challenge Strada Bianca.

[RBW] Re: Riv Riders Interactive Map is Live!

2023-09-14 Thread John Rinker
I had a question about editing your information on the Riv Rider's
Interactive Map. In case you happen to move, get a new bike, sell an
existing bike, change your riding preferences, or get a new nickname you
can update your information on the map.

Just go to the Map of Rivendell Riders
, click on the
'Riv Rider Registration' and you will be given an option to edit your info.

Unfortunately, this doesn't automatically update on the map itself, but
only in the Google Sheet. So, if you want to see your changes on the map,
PM me and I'll have to do it manually. Haven't figured out the
auto-update...yet!

On a side note, I did use the map to find a rider in Spokane who turned me
onto some very fine riding in the area.

Cheers, John

Wow, flashback to Bugle Boys.

When I ride to/from work, I just roll up my pants (without pegging), and
often just walk around all day with the one leg still rolled up.

For longer riding to ride, I don't wear kit any more. Might wear something
with a chamois but underneath "regular" shorts. Otherwise am wearing pretty
much whatever I'd normally wear off the bike.

For shoes, though, when riding to ride, I got some of those Adidas
Velosambas. They've got a recessed spot for 2-bolt SPD cleats but I ride
them without cleats, on pedals with clips and straps. So I don't have to
swap pedals for when I don't want to wear the Velosambas, e.g. for work.
The Velosambas would be fine for a normal day but are stiff enough that I
wouldn't choose to wear them off the bike. Which makes them better than
normal sneakers while riding. Stiffer than the Five Tens I have for flat
pedal MTB.

Anyone getting in on the latest batch of Homers?

https://www.rivbike.com/products/homer

I fought off the urge to get one by realizing that I'm still needing to
push myself to find time to ride my Roadini more, that it probably suits me
better, and the main reason why I have a strong urge to get the Homer is
the cosmetics of the fully lugged frame.

Scarce garage space helps dull the G.A.S. too.

[RBW] FS: Technomic Deluxe 7cm stem

2023-09-14 Thread Bill Lindsay
I picked up a nice Romulus here, and it came with a 7cm Technomic Deluxe
stem. I've set up a different cockpit, so this stem is for sale. It wants
a 26.0mm handlebar. There is some scratching on the top of the clamp, like
somebody worked on the bike "Pasadena style". This has the 190mm Technomic
Deluxe quill, not the 225mm Tallux quill.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53186524467
https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53187436085

https://www.flickr.com/photos/45758191@N04/53187445140

My rule of used stuff (TM) is that mechanically perfecto, cosmetically used
stuff should always be half-retail. So half retail from a Tallux gets us
to $44 plus actual shipping.

2023-09-14 Thread J S
Ted, very timely. I took my Saluki out the other day and yesterday my back
was screaming. I just turned 72 and my back has been an issue since my
40’s, why I started riding Rivendells. Today I will ride my Hillborne. To
make it fair I took the 48mm tires off and put 42’s on like on the Saluki.
Maybe the Hillborne geometry is better. Both bikes are set up the same, 2
differences are tires and cranks. I have a Sugino on the Hillborne and a TA
Zephyr on the Saluki. I got the Saluki last year to replace a Bleriot which
rode great and transferred all of the components. I thought the geometry
was similiar if not the same as the Saluki. By tomorrow morning I will know
how my back did.
