[RBW] Re: 5 Boro Bike Tour (was NYC Riv Ride?)

2024-04-11 Thread Brady Smith
I used to live in Fort Lee, and it was the prospect of commuting across the
GWB down to Chelsea and back each day that got me into cycling.

We moved to Utah mid-pandemic and went back to NYC for the first time last
week. I rented a road bike from Bicycle Habitat and did the classic Bear
Mountain route. It was all great, but I'd forgotten how much I loved
exploring Manhattan on a bike. I never did the Five Boro tour, but it looks
like a blast.

Have fun!

Hi,
I bought a NOS set from Alex Cycles in Japan a couple years ago. Paid $90. The
set they replaced was installed in 2002 and were a bit loose. So, they last
about 20-years.
I wish I had the matching derailleur.

2024-04-11 Thread Brian Forsee
I don't have any for sale but I can confirm they are worth the $$.
Beautiful component with a satisfying click in index mode and if your bike
has a light-ish downtube you can even hear the 'ping' resonate the frame a
little bit. At least that's what I think I'm hearing on my waterford homer
I have a set on.

I too wish i had the matching long cage derailleur.

[RBW] Re: anyone else tried Ritchey Beacon Bars?

2024-04-11 Thread Donzaemon
Beacons were on the shortlist of bars I was considering for my Ritchey
Ascent due to their flare and shallow drops, but I ended up with Ritchey
Corralitos bars instead. I absolutely love the Corralitos bars and can't
imagine swapping them out for anything else aside from maybe the new
Redshift bar. My hesitation with the Beacon bars were the 36° flare, which
results in an extreme angle for your brake levers. I was worried that the
position on the hoods would be too angled and affect comfort. Glad to see
you guys enjoy them though.

I recently switched from Billie bars to SimWorks Wild Honey bars on my
Homer and I have to say I'm not a fan. I've come to the realization that I
prefer drop bars with short reach, shallow drops, and moderate flare. I'm
thinking of trying out Ritchey Classic Venturemax, but my hesitation is
that they have that weird "bio bend" at the drops. I may give Beacons in
the 42cm size a shot and hope the flare doesn't bother me.

2024-04-11 Thread Lyman Labry
Hello All,
The pin and shackle fell off my Brooks B17 saddle recently. The saddle was
purchased from Rivendell and is less than 3 years old. I asked Riv for
guidance but have not heard back from them.
Has anyone in the group experienced this problem? Any guidance appreciated.
Thank you,

 Hey Eric,
He wants a set badly. But he does not do the Google forums, so I offered to put
it out there for him. I found a set NOS for $180 and used for $160, which I
thought was an OK price, but not sure he took advantage.
I hope you are well and getting some riding in.
