I think they’ve used a Sachs fork crown or lugs, or maybe he used
 theirs.

I believe the only difference between Road and Road Standard is the
LongLow became available, which prompted the original Road model
 getting a

As I recall the Mystery Bike was offered and sold to 10 people,
I've only ever seen two of them.

2019-07-14 Thread AJ
Hello,

In need of thinning the collection. The Bombadil frameset was purchased
from a list owner a few years ago. The Rambouillet has been with me for
over 12 years.

Pics:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TKc0u4ON-8W7GBhWQXiY7Yj8QT1CRLkB?usp=sharing

*Bombadil - $1,350 *

In very nice shape, with normal scrape here and there. Chris King headset
included, along with a bullmoose handlebar.

*Rambouillet - $1,800*

In very nice shape, I'd call it it a 7-8 out of 10.

- Nitto Noodle 46
-Chris King Headset
- Tektro Brake Calipers
- 9 speed Ultegra Rear Derailleur (Road rash from different bike)
- Sugino Crank 46-36-26
- MKS Pedals
- Selle An-Atomica Titanico Seat
- Nitto Seatpost
- Dura-Ace Wheelset
- Nitto Stem
- Grand Bois Tires

Both Riv's are available for pickup in Rochester, NY and surrounding
areas. Shipping will be $60 for the Bombadil and $110 for the
Rambouillet; Paypal. Lower 48 ship to destinations. I'm hoping these
will find a good home.
I have a non-riv bike for sale, a 58cm Moots Psychlo X, please private

I take pieces of left over derailleur housing and cut away the plastic

I do like to use this teflon tube under the bottom bracket.

[RBW] FS: Riv Road 60cm

2012-11-20 Thread AJ
My last post seems to have never made it.

A heavily used frameset that never saw its rejuvenation. Too many
projects, time for this Joe Starck built, Joe Bell painted frame to find a
new home.
Photos can be seen here. This Riv could use a fresh paint job, however it
can be ridden as is. No dents or cracks; a sound frame.

TT is 59.5cm (center to center) and ST is 60cm (center to top), rear
chainstays are about 435-440mm, dropouts are horizontal. It has very
ornate lugs. Still looks really nice. Rivendell thinks the head angle is
73.5 and the seat tube is 72. Should fit 32mm-35mm.
The rear spacing is 130mm.

$500, plus shipping for the frame and fork. Many thanks-AJ

[RBW] Re: FS Rivendell Road 60cm - $750

2012-01-10 Thread AJ

The lucky bugger, that would be me. Funny thing, this afternoon I was
chatting with a local gentleman about an RB-2 he had for sale. I was
really only interested in the frame, he was keen on selling the
complete bike. So I put pencil to paper trying to figure out a way of
making the deal work.

Checking on the group tonight I noticed Andrew's Riv; I pounced. We
had a nice chat, and I relieved him of a few other bits and pieces he
had. I'm looking forward to the build keeping me occupied this
winter.

Thanks Esteban for the suggestion; I'm thinking along those same lines.

[RBW] FS: 56cm Bombadil with Bullmoose

2011-01-24 Thread AJ
Hello All,

My bike collection is becoming a bit more focused, and I'm finding the
Bombadil will be better suited in a new home. Its a beautiful frame
that just did not get the use I hoped it would have. The frame, bar
and headset are part of the sale. The frame rates a 9.5/10 and bars a
10.

Pic's are here:

http://tinyurl.com/4jstfb6

$1,700 plus shipping is my asking price. Currently the set up would
sell for about $2,500 new.

Many thanks,
AJ

[RBW] Re: FS: (2) Riv's

2010-11-27 Thread AJ
Kelly,

I've been enjoying a Co-Motion Americano; it handles the heavy loads
very well. Add to it S&S couplers, its a bit better prepared for
travel than the Atlantis. I am fortunate to have Bombadil and
Rambouillet, which will remain in my 'collection' . The sale of the
two Riv's brings my collection down to six bikes; a bit more
manageable.

Offers are accepted, however I don't seeing moving too much on either
bike.-AJ

[RBW] Re: Bullmoose Install on Bombadil

2009-08-05 Thread AJ

Hey Shaun and Don,

Since moving to Rochester I've had the bike down country singletrack a
few times. The bike, laced with Pacenti QuasiMoto's, rides
beautifully. I may take it out on more 'aggressive' terrain this
weekend; I have a sneaky suspicion the Bombadil will be up to the
task.

The build was made up of some new, and some old:

Wheelset: Velocity Synergy/Phil Wood Hubs
Brakes: XTR V-Brakes
BB: Phil Wood
Crank: Sugino XD2
Seatpost: Nitto s-83
Headset: Tange

Thanks all for the comments, I'm fortunate that I don't spend my money
on fancy cars ;-)

Brian, those are shimano bar end shifters residing on Paul Components
Thumbies.

Hey folks,

Thought I would share a few photo's of my newly installed bars. They
look great and should work perfectly out in the woods.

[RBW] Re: anyone actually tried Rivendell's Bullmoose bar yet?

2009-06-30 Thread AJ

I was at the shop about a week ago and saw the bullmoose; very nicely
done, with a gorgeous curve. I ordered one in fire engine red to
match the Bombadil. I threw a leg over, but did not take a ride. My
brief first impression is that it will be a very comfortable bar.

[RBW] Re: Country Bikes Needed Here, Too

2009-03-15 Thread AJ

I enjoyed all the posts with my morning joe, seeing the opinions fly
made for some interesting reading. My 2 cents; moved to Upstate N.Y.
a couple of months ago from Tucson (I know, nuts!). Finally was able
to get on a bike yesterdaywent about 12 miles on my Rambo and
almost dropped a lung...a 14# bike would have made zero difference;
heck, it could have been a 2# bike, I still when be in danger of
collapsing on the side of the road.

I was smiling the whole way :-)
Cheers,
Al

[RBW] Re: Bombadil Post Build

2008-11-29 Thread AJ

I rode a few miles on a trail called Sweetwater, in Tucson. Lots of
cactus, some large rocks; pretty typical desert riding.

The frame was excellent, soaked up the bumps beautifully. I did get
quite a few "what's that?" from the folks at the trail head; that
double top tube gets a lot of attention.

One thing, I banged up my pedals pretty well; bottom bracket is lower
than my other mountain bike (Voodoo). Its just a question of getting
accustomed to it. The Schwalbe 'fatties', although great on the
street and fireroads, are not for singletrack. You really need to
have some knobs, especially on tight turns and uphill. (Quasi-motos
should be in Monday)

I'm very impressed with the Jitensha bars, very comfortable on the
trail. The Paul thumbies/shimano shifters work well, however I may go
semi-modern with trigger shifting. Although its a more 'complicated'
set-up, the immediate responsiveness of a well tuned shifter can be
very handy on a more aggressive trail.

Selle An-atomica saddle are very comfortable, I have three of them.
There are two negatives; the first two generations stretch way too
much. From what I understand, Milton is standing by his product and
will work with you on a solution. Secondly, on two of my saddles I've
developed a creaking noise; a little WD40 on the rails does the
trick. On singletrack, I'm probably going to go with a smaller
saddle; the An-atomica is a long saddle, and I find that my shorts
'catch' the nose a bit too much with the constant up and down. I'll
need to try out different saddles.

I should have a couple more photos up later today from the ride.

Cheers,
AJ

[RBW] Bombadil Post Build

2008-11-28 Thread AJ

Howdy folks,

As promised, I uploaded a few photos of my built up Bombi. Rides
better than it looks, if that's possible.

Heading to the trails now; enjoy the photos.
