I use an Abus Bordo Granite (heavy but very well rated) to go thru the
frame and rear wheel and whatever I am locking the bike to, and a Tigr Lock
to lock the front wheel to my frame. Both locks mount to my frame. I also
tend toward being over insured.

Jeffrey,

I think the Greenspeed comes with a differential that powers both back wheels -
I like that idea better than powering one back wheel only. I think the Hase
delta has that as an option.

I am wishing your dad mobility and good health.

A delta trike might work. Stable and easier to get into and out of than a

Good luck. I hope you find something that works for your dad.

Re: [RBW] Hello and introduction

2020-05-22 Thread Andrew Erman
Welcome, Guenther! Glad to meet another bike loving person. I commute on a
Clem Smith and I was thinking what a great ride that bike, and my Roadini give.
I look forward to having the same or better joy.

Best regards,

Andy

Leah,

Here are some links. My dermatologist said that people often don’t have sun

far so good for me. And I hope he is right!

Re: [RBW] What have you learned during the isolation?

2020-04-28 Thread Andrew Erman
Dear all,

First, I appreciate being part of this discussion group and reading your
thoughts on one of the favorite parts of my life (bikes).

My psychology of riding has been heavily influenced by Grant’s Just Ride, that
he gave me when I purchased my Roadini. I started to feel less need to meet
the “shoulds” in my mind - I should ride fast, I should get my heart rate up, I
should have an aggressive riding posture, I should only go for a ride if it
will be long enough, etc.

My belief about riding was further influence by the TED Talk How Bicycling
Connects Us At the Speed of Discovery.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDubr-RjlCE

I shifted my speed expectation to 10 mph, give or take a couple miles - I
started to notice more stuff - shapes of trees, garbage on the ground, and I
started to make more contact with other people - pedestrians, bike riders, even
people in vehicles.

I still struggle with getting irritated by walkers, riders and drivers whose
behaviors interfere with where I want to get and how fast I want to get there.
When this happens, and if I am on top of my game, I let the movement of others
and myself play out, like some kind of disorganized dance, and then I am on my
way again, enjoying the turn of the cranks, my feet on the pedals, feeling the
wind in my face, looking at all the stuff around me.

Best,

Andy

Thanks, Roberta! That is very kind of you. The Tigr sounds like it could
address your goal of lightening your bike. I have played around with the idea
of putting another Tigr lock on my Clem and leaving the Albus at home unless I
need it to lock my bike and my wife’s together. My Clem is a little beat up so
I am not so worried about my inefficient lock fiddling marring the paint a bit.
 You are inspiring me!

Roberta,

On the plus side, the Tigr lock is light. I needed some practice to easily
get the locking device off the lock and then to reinstall it - still working on
that. I have had a learning curve to get the lock thru my seat stays and
spokes, and to do it in a way that I don’t bung up the paint. I have the
bigger version of the lock but it is not long so I have get my bike very close
to the object to which I will lock my bike. Therefore, I look for skinny
things to lock my bike. I have an Albus u-lock on my bike which is rated very
well. It is very easy to use but heavy. I decided to lighten my bike by
losing 19 pounds off my body.

Best,

Andy

switched to riding solely human powered bikes) - I have Zound horn on that bike
to use with cars - it will definitely get people’s attention!

Re: [RBW] What have you learned during the isolation?

2020-04-25 Thread Andrew Erman
I am finding people walking in the middle of the streets of residential
neighborhoods (even ones that are all apartment buildings) - not to avoid
anyone, just walking in the middle of the street. I am presented with the
dilemma of how to get by them and keep social distance. I am frankly at a loss
why people are doing this. I presume they are afraid of contracting the virus,
but not of getting hit by a car? The big bike bell from RBW gets people’s
attention.

I am trying not to get too irritated because it ruins my ride.

Re: [RBW] In Praise of the Roadini

2020-04-25 Thread Andrew Erman
I love the way your bike looks! I have a grilvered colored Roadini with
Albastache bars. My bike a joy to ride with the more upright positioning
compared to the drops I used to have. May your girlfriend have much joy in
riding this beauty. Great color.
