[RBW] Re: Mounting a Dyno Light on a Nitto Mini Front Rack with a Basket?

2013-05-07 Thread Austin Andrews
I am not sure which front rack she has but I have a wald basket attached to
a Nitto mini-front rack, forget which one exactly, which has a tab on the
front of the rack for a light
(see: http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3464/3990663590_855aeb58a7_z.jpg?zz=1)

I mounted my light on there with a simple nut and bolt. You could also
attach it to one of the threaded eyelets on the side of the rack but that
may prove more complicated than the above. I can take a picture of my
set-up later today if you would like.

[RBW] WTB: Nigel n' Smythe Tweed mud flapper.

2010-09-19 Thread Austin Andrews
Howdy,

Friend and I went for a ride this morning, lent him one of my bikes.
Both made it home, he with my bike sans mud flap. I know they've got
s'ville ones these days but I'd love to put a tweed flap back on the
thing. Miss it, just a flap, but I miss it.

Best,

Austin

[RBW] Re: Saluki/Atlantis summer tour advice

2010-05-08 Thread Austin Andrews
+1 to Another superior (but tough)
alternate route is King Ridge Road just north of the Russian River-
you head up (and I do mean up) from Stewarts Point to Tin Barn Road,
then head south along the ridge. Bring plenty of water.

If you want directions from Mendicino to SF via mostly dirt (the roads
mentioned above) let me know. I initially got the route from Jay @
Riv.

Austin

[RBW] A bicycle for my fifty something year old mother.

2009-12-03 Thread Austin Andrews
All,

My mother has a 3 speed bicycle that she rides around town on. She
gets some groceries, visits friends, rides to the gym, that sort of
thing. She's really taken to cycling and she's taken the bike on some
longer rides, probably 30 miles at the longest. She wants to do more
of this. She wants to ride up big hills, she wants to ride on groomed
dirt paths, she wants to get even more groceries, she wants to go
riding with friends; basically she wants a do it all bike that is
comfortable, user friendly and will get her up that big hill coming
up. She'd also like a mixte/step through because she is getting older
and it's much easier to mount those sorts of frames.

The 3 speed just isn't cutting it for those longer rides. I ask you,
members of this lovely list, what sort of bicycle does this lady need?

I know the obvious choice would be a Betty Foy but she is squeamish
about the price tag. I really think she should get one but she just
doesn't want to spend that much money on anything, be it a bike or
whatever else might cost that much. I am well aware that the bikes are
worth the money and I've told her that. She just doesn't want a bike
that nice. So, does anyone have any suggestions?

I honestly cannot think of a single bike she could buy off the rack
that would fit the bill and look good doing it.

Best,

Austin

[RBW] Re: FS: New in box VO Porteur Rack

2009-10-20 Thread Austin Andrews

There are, or so it seems, two ways to install the rack. Either you
mount it to both the brake hole in the fork crown, via the included
hardware, and the front drop out eyelets OR you can, as I have, mount
the rack at the eyelets and directly to the front fender. If you don't
have fenders then go with the former. If you do have fenders, probably
only metal ones would work, you'd probably want to gothe way I did. I
really couldn't get it to work any other way.

austin
